It's unfortunate (coincidentally on my birthday) but not as prevailant as the media would have you believe.

As someone who has lived in London all my life and worn a Rolex for 10 years all around the city (Brixton, Peckham, Lewisham etc) I can say it's more likely something like this happen in a affluent area than a rough area.

Incidents like this are also going to increase as during summer we all wear short sleeve clothing making jewellery a lot more visible.
