Encouraging kids to read is overrated IMO. I improved my verbal ability and reading comprehension drastically in my late teens to early 20's by watching various YouTube videos.

You do know thier are different reading levels, for all ages.

If you need visual aids to help improve your reading level by all means go ahead. But everyone learns differently and reading a book is #1 way to learn something.

It was not so much visual aid that helped me. It probably had more to do with watching or listening to topics that interested me, and being able to do so while multi-tasking which saved me time. I did not watch youtube with the intent to improve my reading and verbal skills, it just happened to help. So I acknowledge that people learn in different ways. I just don't see how reading could be the best way to learn something. For example, will reading about basketball and fishing for 2 hours a day make you better at it than spending the same time actually doing the activities?

I don't want to aruge but that's your opinion. I just happen to disagree with your opinion.

Everyone learns differently and how people from all age groups have different approaches in how to learn something new or improve their skills or learning abilities.

We do live in the digital age so reading a book might not be an option for a busy person so they can just get an audio copy to listen to, but this doesn't apply to everyone or any subject. Such as math or a visual subject like anatomy.

I find that to be totally false. I don’t think there is anything that develops academic ability, comprehension, and general aptitude for today’s business world like reading a physical book for a child.

The change I’ve seen in students is simply mind boggling when they go from not reading to mandatory reading an hour a day. Almost universally, they find that it’s something they love to do (don’t force them to read specific books).
The drastic increases across all subject areas is really amazing to see.
