How did you write a paper on the Sandlot?

It was an English course about children's literature and literary theory. So I used The Sandlot to discuss issues of gender as a performance and sports to reinforce heterosexual masculinity. Gender performance basically argues that gender is something you learn and develop through peers, social institutions, pop culture, etc., and then I added sports as a method of reinforcement in these gender norms and roles. 

The coming-of-age movie, in particular, can be easy ways to transmit these ideas and I argued The Sandlot  showed these gender performances and reinforcing heterosexual masculinity. Some might say it's looking into things too deeply, but the point of the class was children's books, movies, etc. carry importance messages and lessons they aim to teach kids... but how often are we really examining these lessons? Sometimes it's positive things you're being taught, but many times there's greater implications and issues that many might not notice. It was an awesome class.
