The RETRO Gaming Thread!

I bought Chrono Trigger for like $3 on the play store a few weeks ago and been playing on my phone anytime I have some down time.

What a great ******* game. This version has some different translations than I remember and a couple new areas but damn it's still as good as I remember. I would love to see a remake of this some day.

R.I.P Toriyama

I have the urge to replay Chrono Trigger except I own the worst port. The PS1 port is notorious for having long loading.

The 16-bit era was the greatest/purest gaming era, IMO.

16 bit era > PS2 era(DVD era?) > 8 bit era = PS1 era > HD/Current era > Atari/crash era.

Obviously I spent more time playing in thr 16-bit era than any other era but I would say peak gaming (lb for lb) was produced by the Ps2.

Now that "era" didn't have much competition since the Saturn didn't meet expectations and the N64 was kinda something different in its own right.

That is exactly what inches the 16 bit era ahead of the PS2 era. We had choice and variety. Had the *Dreamcast been handled better, that PS2 era would be on top.

The 7th generation was the last great time for video games, imo. We had it good back then.

You know it's great when I, someone with a nostalgia boner for NES/SNES/Genesis games, would take it over that era. I'd say the 6th and 7th generation are probably my top two gaming gens.

Been playing a lot of R.B.I. Baseball here lately. Sports games were really fun when they were simple and easy to pick up and play.

I forgot about the hype going into Chrono Trigger.

It’s too bad SNK/Capcom or Nintendo/Sega executed something similar during that era.

My friend and I would trade systems. Genesis for Turbo. It was a Saturn (quality wise) like system. He didn’t have a lot of games. But Legenday Axe, Blazing Lasers, and Ys Book 1 and 2. Definitely was the first to showcase the power of CDROM in the states with the cutscenes and red book audio. Fighting Street controlled just as bad bad as the arcade street fighter lol.

It was wild how the early 16-bit systems had so many peripherals and expansions.

Surprised there’s not more expensive games at a convention. I’m in a few Facebook groups where people sell graded games for way more than that. Sometimes I look at the completed listings on Heritage Auctions and can’t believe it

6 Rings G.O.A.T. 6 Rings G.O.A.T. I've found it’s never too late to discover the greatness of old games. I didn’t catch on with Final Fantasy games til about 10-15 years ago, really thanks to Kingdom Hearts. Think I’ll eventually give Zelda another try. I’m one of them that always thought Link was Zelda lol.
