I was a boy when the Gold cartridge dropped. The commercials didn’t really tell you what the game was like. But it was a legend.

The cartridge being gold had me thinking it would be one of the best games ever, I was severely disappointed lol

Breath of the Wild was really good though

Playing Super Mario World the last few days, currently at 94%, a few thoughts I’ve had…

1-2 is the first level. I can’t ever recall playing this game and going left first lol.

People often mention the music for Bowser’s Valley or Vanilla Dome, but it’ll always be the music for the Special World for me. I vividly remember when I got to Special World as a kid and the excitement me, my cousins, and friends had. After we jammed to the music some I ran to the restroom. I remember someone yelling to me, “Bear, the music just changed!” I ran back and caught it but wanted to hear it when it switched up. And then…I made it the second board, Tubular .

F Tubular lol!! Took me a handful of times but I beat it lol. Took forever back in the day. Outrageous is outrageous at times too lol.

Forest of Illusions is the worst world and gave me the most trouble.

It’s only right to beat the game once before completing the Special World, and then beat it again.

Vanilla Secret 3 favorite level.

Blue Yoshi is the !!!

Super Mario World is the only time Mario is truly Super Mario lol.

Super Mario World is the GOAT Mario game! Followed by Mario 3 and Odyssey.

My SNES JR. is moving at PlayStation speed.

Disappointed is Zelda 2. Same type of game but different perspective. It had better graphics, level up, etc. but the vibe was different.

6 Rings G.O.A.T. I've found it’s never too late to discover the greatness of old games. I didn’t catch on with Final Fantasy games til about 10-15 years ago, really thanks to Kingdom Hearts. Think I’ll eventually give Zelda another try. I’m one of them that always thought Link was Zelda lol.

There was a final boss!? Lmao…I wanted to like this game so bad man, but mess was boring and hard to figure out

They hyped that game up like crazy back when it released

My guess is that some of the sales were parents thinking it was a good game for their kids.

I think most people didnt and still don't know this game takes a turn in to sci-fi fantasy/horror. Ecco definitely needs a remake

Man this is so true!! I watched a play through and was shocked at where things went after the first few levels. Dude could hop out the water and slide on ice

Looks like it could’ve been pretty cool once you figured out what to do. Think most of us just found ourselves lost starting off and just gave up lol

Yessir. Tough to know exactly what type of game it was. It was definitely the first of its kind if I remember correctly.

Snagged all this off marketplace for $125 today. I thought they were repro carts because of how clean they were dude said he was getting stuff from his parents and was the original owner of everything since he was a kid. Made sure to check them over anyway of course

Interesting video. Switching to a PC gamer made me realize how cheaper it is to game on the PC but as far as cross-generational pricing I hadn't even thought about it to be honest. Maybe we have been complaining too much about the prices of (base) games because games REALLY have been somewhat inflation proof.

Damn good YouTube channel as well.

I'm really not a fan of people saying things like "what are we complaining about now" when it comes to game prices nowadays. For one thing, a lot of people are buying digital games for $70. Back then you had to factor in things like cartridges, extra chips, and meg size like 8-meg or 16- megs. Games like Strider (the first 8 meg game) and Phantasy Star 4 (first $100 game) were not the norm, either. Most of the non Square Soft SNES games I had were only $50.

I don't know if that point was addressed in the video. Will watch it later when I have the time.

He's out here in Houston. Love his channel and him selling his collection to start over with his daughter is one of the coolest moves I ever saw.

Shout out to his dad for recording everything! My man made home videos of his son gaming just for the memories and ultimately made the perfect YouTube channel. Talk about leaving a legacy.

I think having the luxury of renting games softened the blow of those prices. If you or your parents bought a game brand new, it was because you REALLY wanted it and you already knew what you were getting.

Was doing some decluttering today and took about 350 or so DVDs to disc replay because I haven’t watched them in years and 98% of them are ones I bought way back in the day. When I went back to get the money I was shocked they offered me $350 store credit and only took maybe half of the DVDs. I was honestly expecting about $200 as they are basically obsolete now. Anyway, someone had just traded these in so I grabbed both with the store credit. Might just end up selling to get the actual cash (they only offered like $220 cash vs the store credit)
