The Official Tennis Thread (Vol. 2024 US Open)

[emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji] who honestly believed sharapova's story?

Based on the number of media members and others caping for her, I think a decent number of people. She's getting the benefit of the doubt in an era when Lance Armstrong fooled us. All this "innocent mistake" stuff doesn't past muster when you look at her story objectively. Here are questions I have based on her story

1. How is an athlete as meticulous as Sharapova ignore several warnings and emails from WADA, the Russian federation and others that Meldonium would be on the banned list?

2. If you've lived in the States for more than 20 years why are you using a drug that isn't FDA approved, not available to purchase in the States and not considered very effective for her health issues she cited?

3. If the usual cycle for Meldonium is 4-6 weeks, why was she taking it for 10 years?

4. Why was she afforded the opportunity to get her story out there first when the usual process is that WADA announces the failed test?

5. Why is Jadakiss as hard as it gets?

One more question

6. Why is she taking a obscure diabetes medication, but she got a big candy business.

I asked the same question Rusty. If you are at risk for diabetes and have a family history of the disease, how could a person in good conscience peddle sugerpova candy?

After the presser, I was willing to give her the benefit of a doubt, but you do bring up some good and interesting points.  With more information coming out, indeed, it's all looking rather strange.  We obvs don't have her full medical records, so it's hard for us to comment further on the dosage, usage and whatnot, but it'll be down to her lawyers to prove that that to WADA.

Having said that, let's assume she used it for the "endurance" benefits.  How does she and her team not keep track of these things?  She does seem too meticulous of a person to have not noticed the changes to the list.  Reading some of the comments by other athletes in other fields, the list is quite complex and missing it is possible... one of those "it happens" scenarios... but ultimately, it's down to the athlete to keep track of what they do to their body.

It should also be added that the substance was only added to the ban-list on Jan 1, 2016 (or at least up to the end of 2015?), so everything she's done up to that point had been legal.

And another thing is that this drug supposedly improves endurance, but this is tennis and endurance is only part of it.  You still have to hit the ball and make your shots.  Vs Serena was also about her ability to bring it vs Maria and out-hit her.  A lot of tennis is about matchups and Serena has a clear adv on that one.

There are other aspects to baseball besides Barry Bonds still had to have great hand eye coordinated. And the drugs he took were still technically "legal"

There are even other aspects to cycling, not just endurance. Lance Armstrong revolutionized the sports in many legal ways

They are both still dopers. That's the lane I put Maria in

In other tennis news, Nike has signed............ Jack Sock.

Looks like he'll be wearing the new Zoom Ultrafly...

I love those shoes.

Never knew some tennis athletes wore track spikes for speed work.

Need to import me some Meldonium

Not even surprised that so many sponsors are jumping ship :lol,I've never seen such a mediocre athlete have such a huge media profile and getting the kind of attention that she got in the past.

At one point she was like the Peyton of Tennis, you couldn't avoid her since she was in so many ads. Way more ads than I've ever seen Serena in too :lol :x.

It damn sure wasn't for her on court play...

She doesn't even look better than average. Now Maria Kirilenko is someone I would want for my brand if I had one. Haven't seen her in a while and saw that she got knocked up by some Russian politician.

Sports Illustrated's Ultrafly article acutally spoiled the surprise about Jack's switch to Nike before he could even announced it. Nice to see Nike recognizing his talent. I saw him play in person at Sharapova's event last year and was highly impressed.

I was dead set on going to Indian Wells this year, but ever since Fed withdrew, I've lost my motivation to make the long drive to the desert, lol. Maybe next year...

SAME.

I was planning to go today but got lazy. Frtiz & Tiafoe was a good one.

can only imagine what it would look like if Serena was caught doping :{ Maria getting off easy if you ask me

It would be ugly. I'm glad that players like Andy Murray are calling a spade a spade. I guess all those other Russian athletes busted for Meldonium use have the same heart condition.

Scumbag Nickolas strikes again. I love it [emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji]

Djokovic seems off. He's down a set in the second round at Indian Wells. Is it the thigh injury from Davis Cup? Is it the wind? Or maybe a combination of both?
