The Official Tennis Thread (Vol. 2024 US Open)

Venus is making her return to Indian Wells this year.

Fed is skipping IW because of his recent surgery, but he's planning to play in Monte-Carlo.

Apparently Sharapova has some important announcement tomorrow. I wonder what it will be?

Tennis Channel is going to air her press conference at 12 PM PT.

Wow, I guess this pretty much confirms it.

Could be a sugerpova related announcement as well.
Sounds too serious to be product-related.

We know she's been having a lot of injury-related issues as of late... so it could be about that.  Hope it's not negative news of any sort.

Didn't see that coming. Don't be surprised if they drop the hammer on her.
I dunno... was legal until 2016... and from the looks of things, not a performance-enhancer... Wiki said it was for heart issues among other things.  Obvs not a doc, so I'm just speculating.

Unprofessional and careless?  Sure, perhaps.

Malicious and cheating?  Nope.

I hope she gets her health in order.

The fact that she completely ignored the email isn't going to go over well. I think calling for a press conference was a good move on her behalf, though.

Gotta wonder how all her sponsors will react to this news...

Don't feel like this needed a press conference at all.

Very anticlimactic

I figured that she'd have someone on her team checking these things!  But, yes, ultimately it's her responsibility.

I'd be surprised if her sponsors do anything drastic.  Seemed like an honest mistake.

I was right. Whether she gets a 2 year ban or a 4 year ban this is her last year on the tour. Good riddance.
