we were but it was a surprise to everyone, no one expected bynum to be that good at the start of the season
then he got hurt and got replaced by kwame
then we got pau, who was a decent player but he was never considered to be a top tier PF until after he got to the lakers.

In fact, I started a thread a couple years ago calling for people to take a look back and re-evaluate the trade. As an unbiased fan, I still wholeheartedly believe that the trade was good for both teams. But Laker haters will say the opposite and claim that the Lakers were gift wrapped 2 titles because the Lakers traded nothing for an elite player.....which I find absurd.

He definitely wasn't a top 10 player before, on or after the Lakers but you're kidding yourself if you think people didn't think highly of him then. Dude brought his team to the playoffs THREE times in a row with a bunk squad in the west. Y'all definitely wasn't getting no slouch which is why everyone was crying bloody murder that the Lakers got another franchise's top player without having to give up Odom (who at the time was considered your guy's second best player). You guys were definitely the favorites after that move.

Only reason the trade was considered lopsided was because Marc was an overweight and unproven late 2nd round pick. Now that he's a stud that should be put to rest.
