The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

They're doing UFC Top5 Greatest Fights on FS1 right now.

Forgot that the new season of TUF starts tonight as well 10pm EST.

Guess I missed the 5 greatest fights. TUF is starting now. Guess I'll watch it despite how tired this formula is (despite the "new" team dynamic).

Besides the Veteran fighters like Vitor, Johnson, Evans and Alvarez, who has the Blackzillian, organically trained and developed? Serious question.

ATT has a super deep roster and reputation. Jackson/Winklejohn and AKA are like the other top teams. I'm not forgetting Rufus, Tri-Star, Nova, etc.

Blackzilians too new to have developed anyone. I think Spong was supposed to be that dude (in terms of his MMA career) before the leg break.

They apparently have some good young prospects though. I guess we'll see this season.

Crazy how the top 5 fights were all in the last 4 yeats
What were they?

5. Hendo/Shogun
4. Edgar/Maynard II (the 1st title fight that ended in a draw)
3. Aldo/Mendes
2. Hunt/Bigfoot
1. Bones/Gus

I just assumed Forrest/Bonnar would be #1.

I think the only one I haven't seen is Mendes/Aldo. Didn't Aldo knock out Mendes in their first fight?

And you mean Maynard/Edgar 3? Gray beat Frankie in their first fight. Then Frankie won the title and they had that crazy draw. Then Frankie applied the can opener and Gray was never the same again!!

I also liked Bendo/Melendez. Melendez/Sanchez had a great final round. Weidman/Machida had a great 4&5 round.

Griffin/Bonnar is a great fight.

Lawler/Hendrix 1 was good. #2 wasn't bad either.

Don't think I'll continue watching TUF anymore. It's the same ol, same ol.

Team Fat Boy's Toys won the first match. ATT gassed off their hype and got wrestle crapped. It wasn't really a great fight. Dana was pissed. That house they're staying in was beautiful though.

2.

First one didn't make it out of the first round.

Interestingly, every fight on the list went to the judges.

I feel bad for him but it's partially the UFC. Like I've said before, they don't do a great enough job promoting/marketing their stars.

Most pro sports benefit from getting constant exposure though weekly/daily schedules shine, Fantasy leagues, 24/7 news cycle, ads, etc.

It's just not there for UFC fighters. Besides GSP, Brock, Tito and Randy, who were the biggest UFC stars? They make it so niche, instead focusing on the promotion, concept of fight nights instead of making a bigger deal out of the fighters and match ups.

I watched that HBO special for Mayweather/Paqiou (sp) and was hyped. Then we have all the main stream media coverage, etc.

The last fight kind of close to that was JBJ/DC. Connor/Aldo has a chance. Hopefully, there are commercials, a GREAT preview show and heavy media coverage.

Mighty Mouse doesn't have the swag of GSP or the mouth of a Sonnen/McGregor so UFC should be doing a better job of promoting his great fighting skills and resume'. They should've cancelled 186 after the Rampage issue and threw the title fight on the Fox card.

can't mention Tito and Randy and leave out Chuck.. or Spider when talking about biggest UFC stars

GSP doesn't have "swag" lol he's a goof

McGregor/Aldo is gonna be huge I'm so freakin pumped for that fight

excited for Bones/Rumble too.. Rumble's on a tear and I honestly hope he knocks him out since Bones has become a douche

Gus/JBJ is legit. Hunt/Big Foot is legit. Shogun/Hendo was Legit.

The other two are debatable. I liked Mendes/Aldo 2 but didn't feel like it was eye opening. I'd have to go back and watch Maynard/Edgar 2. That was a crazy outcome if I remember.

I like Frankie but his LW reign was a blur of close decisions. Then we got more of the same with Bendo. I prefer the chaos right now.

Chuck was a big star.

Anderson is debatable. He had a legit reign on top. I'm just talking popularity. Besides the Sonnen, Diaz and second Weidman fight, his fights weren't doing huge numbers. In fact, the deep dark Uncle Dana secret is that none of these Brazillian champs are draws. It took Sonnen's Billy Graham recitations and the assault of pillow fists to finally get water from the Silva well. Before that fight, Silva was getting booed and Dana was extremely frustrated. Anderson was indifferent to it.

GSP doesn't have swag. He just had a cool factor and was the BIGGEST star the UFC ever had. He was marketable, before the knock out heard round the world was an exciting fighter and dominated the WW division. He was their biggest draw (Brock and Tito are probably next).

And Connor/Aldo has the potential to be one of the biggest fights in UFC history. It's a little early but mid June we need to get crazy montage clips cut together from the World Tour.

I'm excited for Jones/Rumble. Rumble had been a juggernaut since his return. He's definitely got knock out power. He might be able to neutralize JBJ's wrestling (I'm not sure after what he did to DC) especially with the Rashad training with him. The only question marks are Jon's reach, Rumble's gas tank in the championship rounds and how Jon can wear you.

He needs to definitely study the tape from the Gus, Glover and DC fights.

And don't get it twisted. I love MMA. And UFC has some really compelling fights coming up. I just wish UFC did a better job promoting their ish. We just Polly about two big fights (not to mention there's Lawler/McDonald and Weidman/Belfort as co-mains).

I think that was Brendan Schuab's list.

He mentioned on his podcast that he was putting a list together for a fox show and that's exactly it.

All of those were legit wars so i can't knock any of those.

I thought the Bonnar/Griffin fight was garbage but i saw it a long time after it happened.

Glad forrest v bonnar 1 wasn't #1. The fight was important but when they put it at 1 for that 100 greatest ufc fights list, I shook my head.

UFC 187, 188, 189 and that stacked July Fox card are all good cards.

It's sad, they actually have a lot of good fights sprinkled amongst the Fight Nights and that the next Rhonda card that they could make two stacked UFC PPVs with potential 500K buys. The problem is that schedule.

^ I forgot about it too, until I checked my timeline I saw a bunch of tweets with people talking about how it looks like Brittney Palmer got new implants.
