The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

Please don't put the names King Mo, Rafael Cavalcante and Luke Rockhold together. I get what you're saying but going through Souza, Kennedy, Boetch, Bisping, Machida And PhilIppou makes him legit.

Vitor is the only bump along the road. Vitor had a TRT exemption going into the Rockhold fight. Not saying he was cheating but the way he was finishing fools was crazy.

The way Weidman and Rockhold are going back and forth is hilarious. I don't understand Weidman's assertion that Rockhold isn't an expert in anything. Rockhold is clearly a great BJJ practitioner.
Details on Weidman/Rockhold going back and forth?

They're all strikeforce champs bruh, their names go together.

It does, but the point is I never would've guessed the Boetch Phillippou Bisping Machida stoppage run based on his previous fights, he's hitting a crazy stride right now.

Wasn't really a back and forth. After the Rockhold fight Cormier was in the broadcast booth stanning for Rockhold, and Weidman (also in the booth) basically tried to shut all that down by saying he's the highest level wrestler and grappler in the division, plus an expert boxer

Apparently UFC booked MSG in December

Weidman gonna get hurt though either before his fight with Vitor or after he beats him

Cormier is AKA Team Captain and a UFC on Fox shill so he was trying to hook his team mate up with the title shot and sell the fight to the viewers.

I kind of felt bad for Luke since he can stutter/stammer and Weidman was clowning him a bit. Luke's work in the ring was on fleek his promotional skills not so much. But it was a good exchange between the two. It wasn't heated just a competitive break down of each other's strengths and the matchup.

Weidman needs to get past Vitor. But that shouldn't be a problem since he's an expert boxer, wrestler and grappler and a stout healthy lad.

If UFC booked MSG, they need to put three title fights in that just to make sure the injury bug doesn't claim the card. Man if they got MSG, it would be crazy.

They might as well just make Jacare v Rockhold.

If the mma bill is passed in NY, Weidman will end up fighting JBJ at MSG or he's gonna end up getting hurt sometime after the Belfort fight.

Rockhold is a beast :{

Did he drop Machida in the first or was it a slip??... Either way he gave him the work on the ground. They might aswel book him to fight Jacare. Winner gets the title shot. They have history and they are both deserving at this point so it makes sense.

Hollaway looked like he couldn't believe how easy that fight was going :lol

Swanson looked flat footed and one dimensional which the total opposite of what you expect from him.

Cub looked the same way against Frankie, very tentative, brooding, didn't get any type of rhythm going at all in his last two losses. Looks like unfortunately his chances at ever reaching the top are fleeting

I believe Machida slipped, he never recovered from that moment either lol

If Rochold or Souza had half a personality they'd easily be in the #1 contender spot. Rockhold is painful to listen to on the mic, I felt so awkward when he referred to his walkout song

the MW division is just in an unfortunate position, both these men have proved over and over again that they deserve a title shot. Whatever decision will be made will come with criticism

It sucks that Souza doesn't know English. But agreed on Rockhold, DC should probably work with I'm on that.

What would be the point of Weidman challenging JBJ? It doesn't seem to be on JBJ's radar. I feel like Weidman has knock out power but Jon is a better striker, wrestler and expert at all things ;)

At this point, I'm kind of burnt out on this super fight nonsense. It was aight when GSP and Anderson were there on these long title reigns and dominating their divisions. But other than JBJ, there's no one else like that besides possibly MM and Aldo.

I agree with Ariel, Rockhold and Weidman are similar, got that supreme confidence that borders on arrogance :lol. They've been backing it up though, can't wait to see that fight, that's a pick'em fight to me.

Theres no point in Weidman challenging JBJ, but with UFC trying to get the MMA bill passed in NY, they've been talking about doing Weidman vs JBJ cause they're both from NY and they wanna do a huge show at MSG that would rival UFC 100.

I just watched the fightland vid of Rockhold surfing and skating....

I'm all the way on the bandwagon now :hat

That's definitely a big fight. LHW champ versus MW champ. If I were trying to book the first ever UFC card in the Mecca (okay it's Las Vegas), I could see that fight, Cyborg vs Rhonda AND Connor versus Max Holloway!! With PVZ as a ring girl!! Anthony Pettis versus some jobber. OMG!!

Love the hype but that fight doesn't make sense on paper. If JBJ beats Johnson then you have a case that he cleaned out the division. He same can't be said for Weidman. Also there are IFs. They both have to win their next fights. And personally, I'd rather throw Cain in the Super Fight based on how weak his division is...

If someone could coach this ***** OSP he could be a legit problem.

Great athlete, super strong, big power and can find a home for his shots. The way he clipped Pat while he was back-pedalling was pretty sick.

He's about to enter waters where raw talent won't cut it though. If he fights a DC, Jones, Rumble, Gus he's going to get worked.

Basically Phil Davis 2!! And I don't mean in the sense of stylistically. Just in the manner that he didn't bother to elevate himself and become well rounded enough to deal with different situations. Phil got out wrestled by Rashad. Phil's wrestling was completely nullified by Johnson and Rumble took him apart on his feet.

Phil DID beat Gustafson before but Gustafson improved a lot after that loss.

OSP showed poor striking technique. Joe Rogan hit on it as the first round went on.

OSP did manage to not stay on the ground long when Cummings took him down but we don't know how different things would've been in rounds 2-3. God forbid in the champion rounds with Jones.

But he's still got some time (maybe). He's definitely athletically gifted.

I see what your saying but i think Phil just peaked rather not trying to evolve. Outside of Jones he fought the best in the business and on paper he had some amazing wins. I mean he beat Glover last time out.

Phil had pretty good technique across the board. He wouldn't have survived fights with Glover and Machida if he didn't. His striking did improve some but the biggest issue was that he is relatively pillow fisted for that division. He couldn't knock dudes out and fought pretty safe so that led to some boring fights and a contract with Bellator.

OSP on the other hand can knock dudes dead but his technique is horrible. There's a lot of basic fundamental technical **** that he can start doing right now to tighten up his game. For Davis to evolve at this point he is going to have to go live in Holland or Thailand for 3yrs to try and develop demonic striking power.

I was saying damn as they kept zooming into her legs and butt.

She is fine.

Can't believe Kampman is the coach of TAM!!

The last coach helped improve some of their striking. It's too bad he had a different of opinion with Urijah.

I wasn't a fan of paige's before the fight but she looked really impressive. The close up of their bodies was nice.

I just watched the Joanne Calderwood and Maryna Moroz fight. Moroz's boxing was nice. She put paws on Joanne. Joanne is way too passive, she better learn to start faster. The verbal exchange between Moroz and Joanna J was funny. They both seem a little weird.

Many would argue Davis lost the fight to Machida. I'll give him the win over Glover. But Glover is suspect (like Connor's road to the title in not fighting any top contender). Davis really is a good but boring MMA fighter.

But like Weidman said last night, you have to be an expert. Davis wasn't an expert in wrestling when battling an elite wrestler or someone who knows how to defend against it. Davis' striking wasn't good enough when it was the sole weapon he could employ in a fight. Davis definitely plateaued and did not seek to keep up/compete with the top 5 murderers row in LHW (JBJ, DC, Rumble, Gustafson, etc). He was going to morph into a gatekeeper like Okami. He would pick apart up and coming competitions but would be unable to hang with the elite.

And I probably shouldn't have compared OSP to Davis. OSP like Uriah Hall whom has some amazing potential, is exciting but possess some serious fundamental issues. Similar to Deontay Wilder in boxing. But I say enjoy it and realize what you're getting.

As far as straw weight, I have no clue. Like women's Bantam weight, it's he Wild West and level of competition isn't as mature as other divisions in the UFC. But Paige, despite how sloppy she was, has a lot of potential. Seriously, two to three more camps at Alpha and she'll be a different fighter.

I remember last year looking at Holloway getting decision'd by Connor as a can. He's developed and matured into a legit fighter and possible threat at feather weight.

And tying back to OSP and Davis, you have to challenge yourself and get better especially in a sport where multiple martial arts disciplines are used.

Holloway was pretty highly regarded outside of the UFC, I never thought he was a can. Good to see him rattle off a long win streak

I always viewed Conor's win over Holloway as a solid win

He can't beat anyone who's tactically good.
I really don't understand why people just don't circle to his right and attack everything on his right half. He has no right hand or leg. It's sickening to watch .

his Power is INSANE THO.

But why would you shoot at him dead center .

Dive for his right side and make him throw that left off wrong foot across his body.

If OSP could throw a simple quick hard jab with his Right, he would probably kill someone in the octagon lol

He hasn't fought anyone in the top ten. He's going to get exposed sooner than later.

As far as Holloway, never followed him outside of the U.S., so my initial impression of him was the second can they fed to Connor. But honestly, all of Connor's comp has been legit. My only issue is the whole title contention thing. Feel like they're handling Holloway the right way whereas the big mouth got front of line privileges.

^If you mean OSP, then I think Bader was in the top 10 when they fought. And he had absolutely nothing for Bader at all.
