I want to buy a laptop, but I have no idea what to look for. Any suggestions is it possible to get a good one for around $700?

I want to use it to download some music, maybe watch some naruto episodes. Stuff like that.

I think I'm done with NT at work.  It'has become a nuisance.  Slowing down my work CPU to 56k status.

They got rid of one cnacer (JRose5), time to get rid of another cancer (Yuku).

How many damn shirts do we have to buy?

That's got good specs, but everyone that I've talked to said that HPs have a bunch of manufacturers defects and that their laptops tend to overheat. I'd be wary of getting an HP. I'd rather get an Asus, Toshiba, or Sony.

People saying get a Mac when he posted a 700 dollar price range....

I just got a Toshiba Satellite from Best Buy for 670 dollars, and so far it's worked great. I got a year of virus protection software so I'm good on that front too. The equivalent Macbook Pro was nearly twice as expensive.

Did you get Trend Micro virus protection? If you did...

Word.  I own a HP and it is on life support right now.  It gets so hot that it shuts itself off.  I heard future MBPs will carry I7 so I think i'll wait for that to come out before I cop.

real question

ive been thinkin about mac before i really do need a new laptop but i dont do music an photos an all that i mean is mac a total waste for a casual pc user?? i mean i need internet and music ya dig what im sayin.

Don't buy a Mac yet, cause the recent ones that are selling right now will be discontinued, expect new models in spring/summer.
Don't buy a HP, cause they use cheap components in there pavilion series. (PAUL IN ON TILT GAVE YOU GOOD INFORMATION)

Now the laptops you should be looking for are ASUS, TOSHIBA and Sony, maybe Dell there Studio editions, not Insprions(sp)

My current laptop is An Asus UL series shares the same specs as the Macbook pro. I love it, great battery life 8-10hrs, stupid thin. If I wanted to ill Hackintosh it but I'm lazy too lazy to do that.

By the way ASUS gives you 1 year free Accidental Damage. (As long as you don't buy it from Best Buy) but don't forget to get some kind of warranty.
