Can any goggle experts drop their 2 cents on these Oakley Canopy Prizm goggles? I mostly ride during the day so Im looking for a good pair for the season. I currently have a cheap pair of "Smith" that keep fogging up. I know absolutely nothing about lens or if its appropriate for conditions ill be in

Honestly, that Prizm heated lense tech sounds like bad news. But Ive also never had any big problems with oakley goggles before, so maybe they know what they're doing. If you're looking to stay in a modest price tho, Ive been using low-light Oakley A-Frames for years, never let me down

A-Frame

If you're looking to go high end tho, I highly recommend the Smith I/O series. Beautiful design and easy interchangeable lens for any light condition.
Lense is so big you feel like an astronaut. These are my babies

I/O 7

Right on time! I was looking for neew googles. Had a pair Of Smith joints in Utah last month and I was basically blind out here with how they were fogging up. smh

Speaking of goggles, how do you guys feel about these amazon off brands?

Something like this: Amazon product ASIN B014XKTFI0
Seems like the folks that did buy them liked em. This will be my first pair I won. I borrowed my brothers for my last trip.

Cheap isnt always better. I shouldve invested in a good pair of goggles in the beginning but I bought a cheap pair. Now I have to spend money again

^ gotcha. Just seems really attractive at ~$45 for a first pair. Might just cough up for a legit pair. Any you guys recommend under 100?

Edit: So I went for my 2nd time ever, snowboarding. We were up in Heavenly this weekend. (it was amazing btw). I am getting a lot more comfortable being on the board. I am still having difficulty staying straight/forward, and not turning to the heel-side. (if that makes sense?) Problem is speed control. When I go straight it is great but I go uncontrollably fast. :lol

I am trying to learn to to turn more smoother and controlled. Another thing is I can't figure out which way I am more comfortable boarding. Goofy or Regular. There were times where I preferred one or the other at the moment. Right foot front seemed the most comfy to me, which is odd since that is my dominant foot. :{ I think ill figure it out soon enough.

The test is to stand straight on both feet and get shoved from behind, and which ever foot steps forward first should be your leading foot. I ride goofy but also want to learn regular

^Awesome! I will try that out with the wife later lol. BTW thanks everyone in here for the great tips. This thread has been great for me.

i need to figure out how to carve so I can get the yambs. I can turn heel and toe side but it aint the prettiest thing you ever saw, lol. and i wanna be able to link turns at some point. hitting the Poconos prez day weekend.

or whats the first leg you use when going up the stairs.... yall don't need to push people over here

I don't know anything about the Prizm but for that price, i would rather go to evo or the-house and buy 2 pairs of last seasons models. One for low light and one for a sunny day. Either that or something that has interchangeable lens.

Evo has some:
Oakley Airbrake Goggles with 2 lens for $125-$150
Smith I/OS $99-$150

Got basically cheap to higher end goggles for up to 50% off

How does everyone's setup look like?

Haven't been able to shred like I used to these past few seasons, so I'm still rocking gear from a few seasons ago.

Arbor Draft board
Flux RK30 bindings

Honestly, after currency conversion and shipping + customs/duty fees, Ill probably be paying the same price, if not more

Thanks guys. I was looking at evo.com but for some reason, my sneaker website instincts were telling me to fall back. I thought it looked sus at first.

Im def checking out the house. I might need a new set up.
I was thinking about buying a brand new board but when i think about it, it's not worth it since itll get reduced the following season. I've been buying used set ups from my friends and theyre great but Im sure buying your own "brand new" board is better lol

If you want new, but not new price, you can always wait until late Winter/Spring and buy from unsold 16/17 inventory.
It won't be as cheap as used, but "this years" model becomes "last years" model awfully quick in the ski season

@Purple Sneaks  I started seeing sales in January when I bought my board. Copped RIDE for about $200 without bindings etc. at a local shop. Everything else with it was pretty much cheap as well. K2 bindings, helmets etc. were about < $60

Just keep an eye out for local sales

Many skiiers in here? Thought I've been trying to get snowboarding down, I am going New Years to Tahoe again and want to give skiing a try. I want to decide this season which of the two I want to fully commit to, as far as buying gear etc. I know regardless what I choose, I'll want to know both, but I want to buy gear and stick to one.

Any tips for someone that has been snowboarding twice and is going to give skiing a try? Should I try morning lessons? I did with snowboarding and I felt it helped only minimally.

@Purple Sneaks  Yeah I was surprised that it was discounted that early, especially living in Canada

Guess they wanted to clear old inventory asap. Even copped a sick Helly Hansen jacket for < $250. Originally priced at $400

Id love to see that around my area for that price...

How long has everybody been snowboarding btw?

Ive started in 2010. Sr year of HS just getting out of a cast from boxers fracture. My first time ever and let me tell you.....it wasnt fun with a stiff hand/wrist.

Til this day im not even that good.im still learning how to carve perfectly and I progress every time I go. Hopefully i have the cahunas to hit the black Diamond next season lol

Evo is definitely legit and they have an outlet section where they put all last seasons boards on heavy discount.

Been skiing for about 25 years now

Hard question to answer.
It mostly depends on which technique you enjoy the most.

But there are a few factors that might help you choose one over the other:

Personally, I think skiers have an easier time at the very beginning. I think a beginners first day or two is easier for skiers, because maneuvering with your feet locked into a board is a bit more awkward and hard to get used to (getting off the lift, shushing along catwalks etc.). Lessons are definitely recommended, at least for one morning

But, i think snowboarders have more fun on days 3 through 15. Riders tend to get to an intermediate level, (blue slopes, baby bump jumps, etc) at a much quicker pace

But But, If you're committed to the long haul ( and this is my personal opinion, many riders will disagree), I think skiing has a higher ceiling in terms of rewards for the truly expert skier. Big mountain skiing (backcountry, cornice drop-ins, chutes) is much more popular among skiers than riders.
Dont get me wrong, there are tons of riders who get to this level also, but there are definitely more obsessed ski addicts than riders

Lastly, it may simply be more important to you if you have friends/family that already do one or the other. I think both techniques are compatible to have together, but you may prefer riding if your friends are riding too.

Snowboarders definitely win when it comes to equipment tho. Your total kit will cost less, weigh a lot less, and be much more comfortable, and that alone may be worth sticking with the board
