If youre in the market for new goggles, I highly recommend any Oakley frame with Prizm lens. I've been rocking the Flight Decks with the prizm rose lens and they make a HUGE difference. Especially on overcast and cloudy days or when riding through shaded areas. The prizm lens filters out specific wavelengths of color which increases contrast. You can really see every bump and contour on the snow a whiole lot easier. By far the best goggle I've ever owned.
As for places to stay near Tahoe, really depends sometimes my friends and I just get a big Airbnb in Truckee, or if we wanna gamble and do some sort of nightlife, we stay in Reno at the Grand Sierra resort. They offer free shuttles to certain resorts if you're a guest. Don't expect much in Reno for nightlife though. There's a reason it's called "Americas Armpit" haha

Yeah my boy played at Reno and I refused to visit him hahaha.
I booked solo dolo since I'm sick of waiting for people. I like to plan out my winter ahead of time so I get the most out of it. I used to stay at my exes up there so this is my first time staying at a resort. Really thinking of just doing Harrahs so I can nightlife and gamble.

Don't have vids cause they'd take too long to upload and I'm out of the country but I'll definitely post some when I return to the states. Here's some unedited photos though from my day yesterday at Stubai Glacier in Austria. Conditions were so so, but the bluebird skies and wide open pistes and bowls made up for it. So much fun.
It's crazy how different the snow culture in Europe is compared to the states. I grew up snowboarding in CA so the ratio of skiers to snowboarders was always like 10% to 90% When I started going to other states like CO, UT or WY it became a little more even like 50/50. But here in Austria i saw maybe 5 snowboarders total yesterday on the mountain. EVERYONE skis. They were all super chill though. Met some dudes who took me on some hidden gems. The only thing is I can never keep up with skiers. Doesn't matter how experienced I am, experienced skiers are next to impossible to keep up with. Lol

Never skied Austria, but Ive skied France and Switzerland a few times. Not in many years tho, would love to get back to the Alps.

Get yourself some proper gear
Pants, jacket, gloves, hat, long ski socks, thermal underclothes. I highly recommend a helmet and goggles, but some prefer sunglasses
Everything else should be rental at the mountain
Stretch before you start. Dont get too frustrated about eating it, everybody falls a bunch when they first begin
Are you skiing with friends who know how? If not, then I definitely recommend at least a morning lesson
The odds of you figuring it out solo are basically nil

Heading up to Tahoe tomorrow afternoon with some buddies. It will be my 2nd time boarding! Cant wait. Hopefully I am a little better this time around.

seriously considering getting my own board and set up. i go snow boarding maybe 1 or 2 times year and usually just rent all the stuff. but i feel like if i had my own board ready to go, id go alot more.
im at least 5 hours from any decent snowboarding spot where i live so im deciding if its worth the investment. how much are you guys typically spending on boots/binding/board setup? any piece of equipment i shouldnt skimp money on? Im seeing some good deals on ebay

Don't skimp on boots and I would recommend buying them in store so you can get a really good fit. Most boots come with intuition liners now and they bake them and get you fitted in the store. I got a new setup this year and copped a board from last year for half off. Board and bindings only ran me $550.

Do any of you guys ever go skiing/boarding alone? I have some friends that want to go but never been so most likely they will spend the day on the bunny hill. Would it be messed up if I left them by themselves so I could go and ski much more challenging runs?

Shouldn't matter. All depends on your friends and you in how you feel about that stuff. I'm a noob and went with some more advanced folks. They went and did their thing and I did mine.

Its not messed as long as they're not alone. Make sure you have 2 noobs so they can stick with each other but I think you should have them take a lesson. While they're taking their lesson you can do your thing and just meet up with them after.

And as far as you going solo, as long as your on-piste its no big deal. If you go out of bounds or somewhere in-mountain but super empty you aughta let a ski patrol or somebody know where you're gonna be
