School Me On This Russia/Ukraine Kerfuffle

Very little when you think about how all these weapons have been paid for and have just been sitting around waiting to be used. At the end of the day the defense dept is gonna spend billions on weapons and development regardless if we use them or not. Basically the weapons are free you just pay shipping and handling! Lol

This is sort of the way I’d look at it. Some of these weapons are outdated per US tech as the new gen stuff would be coming out. The Us isn’t sending the latest and greatest stuff out there.

Afghans kicked their asses.

In nine years Afghans killed a third of what Ukrainians have in six months. So keep the arms coming!

"In the final days before the invasion of Ukraine, Russia’s security service began sending cryptic instructions to informants in Kyiv. Pack up and get out of the capital, the Kremlin collaborators were told, but leave behind the keys to your homes.

The directions came from senior officers in a unit of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) with a prosaic name — the Department of Operational Information — but an ominous assignment: ensure the decapitation of the Ukrainian government and oversee the installation of a pro-Russian regime.

The messages were a measure of the confidence in that audacious plan. So certain were FSB operatives that they would soon control the levers of power in Kyiv, according to Ukrainian and Western security officials, that they spent the waning days before the war arranging safe houses or accommodations in informants’ apartments and other locations for the planned influx of personnel."

Another 3 billion for Ukraine

Looks like we in for the long haul

When Putin gone drop the nuke? Considering he’s dying and obvs heartless, what’s there to lose?
About fifteen of these.

Cautious optimism on the numbers coming out of the Kherson counter-offensive.

The US is not the only country contributing to the war effort in Ukraine.

Russia is all in on making central/western Europe suffer this winter:

None of this looks good...

We could also spend some of that money on civic education, so that folks could have a better understanding of the powers and responsibilities of the federal and state governments.

While depressing that we would see this in 2022 in the US, I don't see how anyone is surprised this would happen in MS and Jackson of all places

I guarantee you that MS has provided plenty of assistance to other areas of the state, probably in much greater per capita amounts

They openly talked up the southern offensive for months and it looks like they were planning as big of an offensive in the Kharkiv area

The Russians moved a lot of their better units south not wanting to lose the only state capital (Kherson) that they have taken in the war. They will probably lose it anyway

Meanwhile, the new UK PM announced that she plans to cap the amount British households will spend on energy to 2500 GBP/year for the next two years. If other European countries follow suit with similar plans, that can dampen the impact of Russia cutting off energy supply to its western customers.
