Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

I gotta go back to Searching For Jerry Garcia, man. Great project.

I had listened to that right after I posted :lol hadn't listened to it in years, it is good, but I thought back when it came out that it could have been better, especially with a lot of good producers that were on there.

I wish we treated DMX with the same “legend reverence” that we do Eminem. Because X > Em...

Never really thought about comparing the two, but I will say Em's latter albums are FAR worse than DMX's latter albums.

Who don't treat X as a legend? People that know hip hop love X. He's in peoples top 5-10, just like Em.

Cats just being saying anything. Plus, X is also a better actor than Em

That’s not what I’m alluding too.

Eminem hasn’t been good since like 03...and he’s only now getting called out for it for a multiple of reasons. The man won a damn Grammy in 2014 :lol.

When I say “we” I mean the larger culture and hip culture itself. Of course DMX is well respected....he’s just not as accepted by all the way Eminem is....even though both of their primes ran and ended around the same times.

The man won a Grammy because he’s white. And released an album. Period. We know them white folks gone crown him.

And “we” the “current hip-hop fan” are allowing garbage to go on, unrelenting. Why be mad now? Y’all allowed it. Mainstream hip hop is straight s****y baby wipes right now, Eminem just contributing to the circus. “Y’all” allowing this...

You can't put stock in what the Grammys think. We know that by now. Since Em came back in 2010 the only people that's really liked his albums are the white fans that only like Em. People that really know ain't been feeling his music since the 8 mile soundtrack.

Your comprehension real weird man :lol

***** gotta spell everything out. Duh....that’s why I made the post that I wish “we” treated X with the same legend reverence as Eminem. I’m not speaking to you or me when I say “we”. It’s a collective thing which should be obvious as hell what I was saying. Eminem got passes for not being up to par for far too long. As well as commercial success for an extended period, while people pretended like he was still nice for a long period due to his persona.

Even respected lyricist and people in his camp pretended like he was dope when he wasn’t making good music because they didn’t wanna bite the hand. Again, it’s a myriad of reasoning.

I think X has a lot of non rap stuff that has unfortunately overshadowed his music legacy.

I don’t think bruh has gone longer than 2-3 years his entire career without them plastering him in the news for getting arrested or something jail/court related. He’s had stretches where it something literally every year or multiple times in 1 year. Then the noted financial problems, drug rumors etc. **** kinda sad.

He supposed to be getting a reality TV show soon.

I hear this and just can’t help but to shake my head yet again.

Tax really had a niche carved out and could’ve prospered for quite some time.

Instead he’s in fed custody, Troy Ave is prancing around on IG, and his mans is gone. Crazy how much life can change in one night.

And to the host’s intro, there are people who are able to take an objective look at the situation as it’s been presented thus far and acknowledge that stupid decisions were made on a few people’s parts. Save that “let he who is without sin cast the first stone” spiel. Tax, Troy, Banga... all of them displayed poor decision making that night with little regard for their own lives or the lives of others.

 just randomly seeing Bizarre. Thought dude was legit crazy as a kid.
Thought I was tripping until I saw him again at the same store in a dingy hoody. I knew it was him cuz the tat on his face. Then I go to my truck and dude hopped in the minivan, mercury villager type joint, old Ford windstar riding boy. He must live in that area.

Producers need a union or something. **** just too unprofessional, a lot of loop holes and grey areas. The monetary value of production has dropped drastically in the minds of artist until you get to the TM, Metro, etc brand level. These _’s will just try and use their leverage and act like they doing you a favor by gracing your beat. Same thing kinda happens in the low level video production world. Dudes be needing crews for their lil projects and will try and tell you how much “exposure” the project is gonna get you etc in lieu of paying you.

Best bet nowadays is prolly getting with a small artist you believe in that you can work semi closely with and tryna come up/develop together. Also gotta step your skills up beyond just being a beat maker, increase your value. If you tryna hit up big artists you gotta have some type of representation or you gonna get finessed. Even then it’s still iffy.

You can have a label hitting you to send beats for so and so artist, once they get the beats they just have their in house producers remake it track by track, game grimey as hell

DJ Clark Kent say there is a producer union that make sure the producer is paid. I guess they don’t want to pay whatever that union fee is though
