Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

who's doing that?

Kanye had to follow up wit twisted midnight fantasy classic just wash down that 808's turd.

A lot of what made Twisted Fantasy classic were concepts started on 808s.

He said himself that all of his albums are perfections of the weird **** he tried on the last one.

The vocal effects and **** and the 10 minute Runaway interlude dont exist without 808s, although Im sure nobodys favorite part of MBDTF was this ***** crying in autotune for ten minutes.

lol at making sweeping generalizations about what “street *****s” wear

its a young ***** on your local corner right now serving mid in a tacky bleached rock band tour tee from Pac Sun. *****s dont know what a damn Iron maiden is lol.

Lol what are you talking about *****s dont even think like that “I’ll never wear GAP”.

How is Future doing a silly little commercial with Cher “selling out”. Nobody in the demographic youre arguing for is mad about that commercial lol. *****s recognize its all types of ways to get money and finessing white America’s obsession with black people making “chitlins” out of the scraps they gave them is one of them.

All facts. Between this guy and ninja acting like Kanye stans and the media didn't proclaim 808's a classic I'm over this conversation. It's literally making my brain hurt

If this minor exchange is making your head hurt, let me know what industry/profession you work in, so i’ll know not to do business with your employer. Hiring thin skinned people like you.

I don’t know what hood y’all are from but, dudes from Florida ain’t shopping in Gap. Maybe the new age ones who wear Aeropostale or hollister type stuff.

Y’all upset at Future tapping into that other market. I never said it was a problem. Get his cheese. He has made an attempt, to do so. And has somewhat succeeded.

You know exactly where I'm from cut it out

Dude talking about Hollister and Aeropostale like it's 2006

I totally get it now

you ain't low b... hiding behind what da media/Kanye stans opinion on 808's? :lol

there's a reason Kanye had to do good Fridays for like a month straight...he had to build up good will with da actual public who thought that 808 ish was bunz.

Future washed pusha T on move that dope

Nah mane

Young enough to still sell dope, but old enough that I knows better
When they sayin' it's 42 for that white powder, I knows better
Get it *****? I nose better, put a smile on the devil's face
Who don't wanna sell dope forever and flood their Rollie 'til the bezel break?

word, cats in here trying to downplay Cardi B in here..why?

Nicki type effed her self into a corner, all those features she's doing is cool, but Cardi B can go tit for tat with her, and she bilingual so Cardi Jumping on all those flaming Dembow/reggaeton smash hits and got Nicki having to follow suit

Nicki better act like its 2007 and drop a fire *** mixtape....like now.

She got way too much diva in her to put out a mixtape. :lol

People continuously misuse the term "selling out".

Selling out means compromising your integrity, morals, who you are (or who you've portrayed yourself to be) for monetary gain.

What moral fortitude comes with making music about drug dealing that suggests doing a Gap ad would compromise that?

"I got it, Nicki you gotta do a tape for your core and the streets."

That **** was fire. :pimp:

Loved 808's since the day I bought it too.

i liked 808s too.

if a new artist had made it people woulda rocked with it more.

lol

Either man's fronting for the world or somebody sold him glass and called it Diamonds

And 808s was always underappreciated and can now be considered a classic due to its impact. Folks thought he was killing hip hop with that joint. Coldest winter >>>>

:hat

808s literally birthed Drake. He was on his rappity rap **** before that.

Being fair, I think he was going in that direction being the child star lightskin ***** who been had money, he kinda had no choice to go that route :lol. But 808s gave him a solid framework and lane to build off of. 40 said something like that in XXL that him going over Say You Will opened their ears to a new pocket for him.

But this YT upload date alone predates 808s by a few months.

He gotta do a tour or one night show on Apple Music/TIDAL of all pre 2010 joints. Seems almost like a whole different artist sometimes.

This dude gotta make up his mind. His window of us remembering how much we liked ES ain't gonna last long if Joe comes with some new hot **** within the next month.

Give us Charlemagne, Joe and Ak with Tax occasionally via FaceTime and let that be that. Puffy will drop the checks and commissary.

Just think 808's allowed for a guy like Drake to live and exist in Hip-Hop with this brand of music. He'd been writing for others with R&B music for a few years by the time 808s came out, and even on Comeback Season had '***** is Crazy' on there where he's singing.

But For instance,

when Brand New came out Drake and D10 (Dude who produced the record) put the record out anonymously because of the optics of a rapper making a song like 'Brand New.' 808's and Heartbreak allowed for Drake and other rappers to not have to do that anymore.

I never knew this. Surreal to think that ****** couldn't sing a decade ago and now people literally don't want to rap and make fun of people for trying to rap...well lol (Big Sean's album getting roasted).

This rap **** moves so fast, it's crazy to think where we were in January 2008 to where we were in 2011 to where we were in 2014 and so on and so forth up until right now....makes me wonder where it's going next and how fast it's coming.

Yeah man like, even w/Ye when he was trying to put 808's out the Label didn't even want him to use the name 'Kanye West' for it. They also wanted the genre to be "Pop" or something, not Hip-Hop / R&B. It is crazy to think that a decade ago, even rap's most popular like Ye wasn't supposed to be singing.
