Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Even crazier coming from a PG/DC dude. They’re one of the first ****** to rock slimmer (relatively compared to ultra baggy) jeans.

I remember when my bro went to college in 05 and met some dc *****, he was telling me how they’d have big solbiato shirts/hoodies and small jeans (relatively at the time) over crazy laced kicks. You just gotta look to Wale circa 06/07 to get it.

And Jim was just as...if not more influential in urban fashion slimming up as Kanye. Jim brought trues, Antiks, 7s and ed hardy to the game. Everything else just followed from there and was a mix of things. By 09...you looked kinda goofy rocking big clothes. In my city...for the slick *****, 06/07 was the shift. Starting with American eagle/Hollister/Abercrombie type brands to trues, 575, 7s, Antiks, rock & republic, ed hardy, etc...then the streetwear wave and boutique stores like Stussy etc.

whats some of yall favorite regional styles and brands from growing up in the DMV, mainly DC.

i like some of the regional staples yall have the foams, the NBs, the helly jumpers.

Any NYers remember this dumb ****.

This **** was running rampant around me.

That AE, Hollister, Abercrombie had a small moment out here but faded fast :lol Now it's just be the skater ****** who wear that ****.

Before all the skinny nonsense, a typical outfit would be a plain white or black tee, preferably from trash *** Pro Club, a pair of 501s or Dickies, and some Chucks. Depending on where you was at you may have wore Van's, but Chucks were an easy go too

Dude's memory is accurate. The Filas with the strap were VERY popular around 92-93ish. I remember them vividly. They were popular around the time people were wearing Cross Colours and Hi-Tec boots.

It's a blurry pic but Pac did wear them in the video for When My Homies Call.

Here's a clearer pic of Consequence wearing them.

damn dude was right :lol

Those Gucci cw ones are clean. FILA stay making knockoff versions of shoes with no shame and for some reason the hood respects it instead of roasting u lol.

They made knockoff AF1s, knockoff prada american cups, knockoff dad shoes, and they just did a knockoff balenciaga sock runner that was a hot topic on the tl lol

They make some clean **** but damn they just dont give a damn :lol

idk what this is :lol but damn thats the first time i saw some polo boots in a while. those were the **** my first few months of high school then the sneakerhead Wale foam lebron kobe etc wave came in lol.

Skater/Rockstar look took NYC hoods by storm around the same time Kanye was wearing big *** jeans, pink polos, and bear backpacks. Quite sure it was the same in LA but *****s just love giving Kanye credit for everything
This. Yardie business was in full effect and a bunch of dudes was trying to emulate the style. This was around 2004-2005. Almost every dude was running around claiming they were a dancer . Thats why it shocked me when I see on here that Kanye was given mad props for things that been the wave in NYC and other parts of the world. Then I realized most of the cats on here worship Kanye like God so it made sense why they credited him for everything.

It’d be polo boots, uggs or A Solos  With a Marm and some trues, robins or 7s hanging off their ***.

****** went as far as dropping 60 for 1 pair of Burberry boxers so the print could be seen when they sagged :lol:

Worst part about it is they’d sag WITH a belt on.

Fila had a run.

I never had Fila. I think they used to do that more in BK.

_s really gotta put respect on what Jim and Juelz (to a lesser extent) did in the whole hip hop fashion/gang banging lane. Jim really fathered 90% of this generation and he doesn't get his just due

Let's be real though...Jimmy got his swag from Stacks

I was tucking skinny jeans in Asolos in 06. *****s can't tell me nothing about NYC hood fashion

man i wanna make something where people can archive this ****.

outside of sites like these where ****** have discussions like this all those fashions and moments from the midlate 00’s and on just gonna die off in our heads.

its so much content because we (or really yall bcause i was just entering my teens lol) was the first generation with modern incarnation of social media with myspace facebook youtube in the mid 2000’s.

With a $500 belt on, or supposedly $500 belt on

That's one of the wackest styles ever. I wonder if dudes will ever realize how gay that looks is.

In 05 DC/PG county was still wearing big shirts and baggy jeans. Alldaz and all them local clothing brands wasn't making slim stuff yet. Shirts got smaller around 07. Dudes started wearing slimmer jeans around late 09.

I can't do skinny jeans. Sagging skinny jeans has got to be one of the dumbest looks ever. Definitely team slim fit though.

The key is getting the size that's comfortable for you. I can't do the Wiz Khalifa women tight thing. My nuts gotta breathe.

Shoutout to the essays rockin dickies shorts or pants with tube socks with their nike cortez or chucks. And those black shades
NY had a dickies run too.

Middle school me had an all red dickies suit with a black carhartt jacket and some bred 13a.

My dumb ***:lol: Do you know how many ice grills and su woos I got?

I can’t call it with dc. You gotta ask them *****. We got our own thing in Baltimore. Some similarities of corse...but different ****. DTLR is a Baltimore brand. So the more they spread...the more crossover type ****. Steve Francis an Juan Dixon had a PG/Bmore brand called We-R-One that was poppin for a minute.

There was a time where the fly **** was to rock local hood brands (usually d boy fronts). If you were getting to it in my city....you’d rock Samos, Acoustix, Mosions, C-note, Hohfs, HARUPT. **** was like $50 a t-shirt at the lowest. But you could work with them. Summer Sets could cost like $200. $250 for a sweat suit set in the winter...and of course you’d have to freak em with some foams, new balance, Nike boots, or 90s Nike’s. There was a time where AF1 was “clowned out”. Like 04-11. It became associated as the “dusty ***** shoe”. And this is the city that birthed of AF1 :smh: .

I used to save up all my bread to go down to mosions and cop something :{ :lol. Don’t even walk in the store unless you got more that $50 on you.

And in retrospect, the baggy era lasted about 15 years. From like 1992-2007. It wasn’t here as long as people tend to believe

its slowly coming back thoough.

starting with the ian connor travis scott kanye types and by 2020 its gonna have trickled down to the general consumer.
