If you hold CTRL + Scroll Wheel Up/Down you can resize your desktop icons.

Give it a whirl and maybe the icons wont get distorted as much when you make them bigger.
Do I click / highlight the icon than press Ctrl + Scroll? Idk, I tried that method, nothing happens. I'm on XP btw.

EDIT: Nvm, I got it. There was an option in WindowsBlind to run larger icons.
