For anyone planning to stop by, the Designer Sale at Nordstrom Men's Shoes at Garden State Plaza in New Jersey is tomorrow (Friday, Nov 30th). Racks will be out, and the store opens from 10 AM - 10 PM. It's 40% off Gucci, Prada. Selection is still really good. Stop in, or contact me with any questions.
 
small heads up for those that were interested in those blue arena highs. i guess the webstore was wrong yesterday (or it's wrong today), but those blue cobalt and the maree have swapped places. i think they're correct this time around though, because i was told my lows were cobalt blue, and they match the dark highs that nearly look black. yesterday they were labeled as maree and had a fsr.
today those pairs with the royal blue sole are labeled as maree, with the bigger size run (but some sizes are now gone). wonder how many people placed an order thinking they were buying the cobalt blue...very confusing. but worth a shot if you thought you missed out yesterday...

My Balenciaga.com order was cancelled this morning, the Red Arenas sold out while I was placing my order apparently. Ah well, the search continues.

Seriously, they do more so because they are limited quantities but more so blame Kanye West. It's really disgusting. I understand not everybody can be up on the high end stuff but the high end game is turning into nothing but hypebeast. Dudes see Kanye rocking it and now go crazy when there's people that have been on it. But hey what can you do. :{ Glad I got my ish on lock! :smokin

I made a trip to Vegas today and stopped by the Louboutin Boutique. They had one of these left in a 46. Just a heads up if anyone is interested. Side note, I apologize for the "stock" pic, they wouldn't let me take pics.

Can't even really blame Kanye though, Louboutins sell out instantly on the website as well and I don't think Kanye has ever worn CL sneakers, might be the spiked rollerboy but I don't remember the sneakers at all.

Part of is definitely hype but for the most part it is just the very limited numbers being made. When Barneys restocked, it seemed like they only got a pair per size so in comparison to the hundreds of thousands that Nikes/Jordans are made that are still selling out w/ people camping out and being shot, the demand for Arenas aren't that bad. I wouldn't be surprised if Balenciagas own website only got a handful of pair for each size either, these sneakers aren't mass produced and outside of the handful of their own boutiques, very few stores carry/sell the shoes too.


Plus a$600 for a pair of sneakers that doesn't have any innovative tech or nostalgia (like retroes) is still a lot of money to most people and that usually prevent most to "beast" or "hype" up the shoes.

That doesn't really mean it is all hype exactly, it's just very limited and that is why it is selling out quick. If they get hundreds of pairs per size and then it is selling out at retail (even the ugly colorways) then I'd say it is hyped but the ugly color combos are making the sales rack and sitting there for the most part.

I'd only consider it all completely "hyped up" if the ugly colorways are selling at retails just so people could say they "own a pair of Balenciagas," the same pair that makes the Arenas that Kanye was wearing.

Not sure if this thread is trying to create hype or maybe its my size 45 but I have no problems with finding Balenciagas as long as they are still in season. My SA is pretty good at finding stuff for me, even if her store is out.

If the US is out you can always contact stores overseas. The Milan store is really good. They will mark down customs and send invoice in a separate envelope. If I need my stuff in a hurry I usually go though them. They ship in 2 days. While my local SA takes 5 and charge extra for 3 day shipping.

dope pics! i've made up my mind that prefer the red..then black, so i'll do some research thanks to the info provided from the peeps in this forum!

as for the "hype" and all that...i'll admit i was exposed to these shoes via the good folks in here along kayne&co, a$ap, and every other celeb that's been posted on this forum! but why does it have to be hype/hypebeast? at one point we are ALL exposed to and influenced by others. could be family, could be the media, blogs, entertainers be it rappers, actors, athletes...fact of the matter is not many  of us are born knowing givency, rick owes, balenciaga...unless of course you're in that 1%. i'll bet altho some people in here may be fairly well off in income...many are not and are spending lots lots lots of money to have the latest and greatest.
 
1982, just fyi, if you are leaning toward the red based on that pic, that is an older version. the current all red high has black lining, and the sole is also more glossy. some people dont like that about the new arenas.

Alexander Wang To be Announced the New Creative Director of Balenciaga

According to market sources, the PPR-owned fashion house picked the buzzy New York designer to succeed Nicolas Ghesquière, who is to officially exit Balenciaga today.

Balenciaga officials had no comment on Thursday. Wang officials did not respond to a request for comment.

A designer in the sleek-and-modern fashion mold of Ghesquière, but with a streetwise edge and a tinge of Goth, Wang has become one the brightest stars of the American fashion scene with his groovy T-shirts, studded handbags and high-impact fashion shows.

He is also admired for his commercial savvy, having rapidly built a sizable business with manufacturing muscle and a global footprint.

The choice of Wang suggests Balenciaga might wish to dial down the elitist, couture-like approach of Ghesquière, and open up to a broader audience with a designer prized for his sportswear approach and youthful energy.

“Although we are an American brand, I think that is more to the sense of what is American sportswear, and things that feel very accessible and easy to wear,” Wang said in an interview earlier this year. “But at the same time we really see our audience and our consumer as a global citizen, someone who isn’t defined by where they live or what kind of music they listen to, things like that. It’s a sensibility that is much more individual.”

Of his Chinese lineage, he said: “In a way, I know there’s an audience that connects with me. How I identify that or what I pinpoint that to, whether it’s because of my background or because I connect with people of my generation in New York or London — that, I don’t know how to explain or quantify.”

Wang, who speaks Mandarin, has traveled frequently over the years to Shanghai, where his mother still lives; his father is based in Hong Kong.

Born to Taiwanese-American parents and raised in San Francisco, Wang studied fashion at Parsons School of Design at age 18 and created his signature label in 2005, then predominantly knitwear, according to his Web site.

He launched his full women’s collection in 2008, and has since expanded his product universe to include men’s wear, leather goods and a second line called T by Alexander Wang.

He operates a flagship in New York’s SoHo district, and earlier this year opened a 5,000-square-foot unit in Beijing. The privately held firm will end 2012 with a retail network of 12 freestanding stores and shop-in-shops in seven countries, with a concentration in Asia.

The U.S. is still Wang’s largest single market, but Europe and Asia together make up about 60 percent of its total distribution. Over the summer, Wang established a full-time showroom and offices in Paris to support his European expansion.

Wang has also demonstrated success with handbags, which is considered an important category at Balenciaga. His popular Rocco style, which resembles an athletic bag and rests on a grid of metal studs, is in a similar rock ’n’ roll vein as Balenciaga’s hit Lariat bag with its dangling zipper pulls and industrial hardware.

At Balenciaga, Wang will have big shoes to fill. Beloved by the press and considered wildly influential by retailers, Ghesquière had a stellar 15-year career at the house, making Balenciaga a temple of cutting-edge fashion and haute craftsmanship.

The challenge for Wang, still not 30, will be to juggle the demands of a fast-growing Paris fashion house with his own burgeoning label.

To be sure, he steps into a sizable business that now counts 62 directly operated stores and a new fragrance fronted by “Twilight” actress Kristen Stewart. This year, Balenciaga strengthened its presence in Asia, opening stores in Mainland China to bring its complement there to 11.

According to PPR, Balenciaga has multiplied in size by 11 times since it was acquired in 2001 by what was then Gucci Group (now known as PPR’s luxury division).

The brand is posting double-digit growth for the year to date, according to Isabelle Guichot, Balenciaga’s chief executive officer. “We have huge ambitions and we have huge reserves of growth,” she said earlier this month.

Spanish-born couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga showed his first collection in Paris in 1937 and was revered for his peerless, sculptural clothes. Despite international fame, Balenciaga closed his couture business in 1968, leaving licensed fragrances as the main business. He died in 1972. The business was subsequently known mostly for fragrances and licensed productions, until Ghesquière arrived in 1997 and engineered a rejuvenation drive.
 
Just a quick update... I received the Spring look book for classic shoes (Prada, Gucci, Ferragamo, etc...) and should receive the look book for the remainder of the designer footwear (Margiela, Givenchy, Pierre Hardy, etc...) next week. I'll post them up when I get it.
