Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

What genre would you say In Bruges and The Banshees of Inisherin are? Comedy? Dark comedy? Thriller? I mean, not a lot of action in either one. Lots of shock, but not action.
(2 AMAZING movies, btw.)

Last night's watch. Film showed some promise in the beginning but fell flat in the final act. Dan Stevens was awesome as usual and continues his streak as the standout character in quirky horror flicks. Glad i missed this one in the theatre.

One film-related criticism I will never understand is when someone says a film is “boring”

The reason is because I don’t get bored. Ever. You will never ever hear me say that I’m bored

Which actor/actress did you think would go on to have a big movie star career but ended up flaming out?
They’ve all kind of rallied to various degrees recently, so “flamed out” doesn’t exactly work, but

Alicia Silverstone
Josh Hartnett
Lindsay Lohan

all has less successful movie careers than I anticipated based on how they started off.

This is gonna hurt........

Riggins.

Taylor Kitsch was EVERYWHERE for a minute after FNL, and then.......iono. John Carter I guess?

Lohan is a good mention by Lawdog, if you showed me Mean Girls and told me THAT Lohan wouldn't become a huge Hollywood actress, I would have thought she died or somethin tragic.

Good question.

I would unfortunately have to say Jake Lloyd and Ahmed Best.

Back in ‘99, Anakin Skywalker was the biggest part in the world, but unfortunately fans were very unsupportive of Jake Lloyd and he didn’t continue to pursue many roles after that. I think his last role was in 2001 if I remember correctly.

As for Ahmed Best, the role of Jar-Jar Binks was supposed to be his big break, but that character didn’t go over well with many movie enthusiasts and the role didn’t provide the opportunities that many people speculated it would.

I’m glad Mark Hamill, Natalie Portman, and other Star Wars alumni stuck up for them, because fans were a little harsh towards Jake and Ahmed

Black comedy or dark comedy. The lobster, sorry for bothering you, the death of Stalin(especially if you know Cold War history) I would say are recent accounts in that genre.

Y2K was an absolute abomination. By the time the ending credit song came on, I felt more relief than anything else even though I was paying more attention at phone. The movie was painfully cheesy, overly cringe, and lacked any substance (even comedy) to keep me engaged. It was so bad that I found myself wondering who this was even made for—perhaps fans of low-effort nostalgia or those who enjoy deliberately campy films.

To call this a waste of time feels like an understatement. There was no meaningful story, no standout performances, and no moments that justified sitting through it. If you value your time or are looking for something with even a hint of quality, I can’t recommend this one. Unless you’re into movies that feel like a parody of themselves, I’d say skip it entirely.

Derek Luke. After being discovered by Denzel and giving an Oscar worthy performance in “Antoine Fisher”, I just knew he was next up. Once I saw him in a Tyler Perry movie it was a wrap.

Terrence Howard. He’s had a pretty decent career in television. But after Hustle & Flow and Iron Man he was on track to becoming a blockbuster leading man. He was Jonathan Majors before Jonathan Majors.

Thought of Sam as well. He got very lucky landing Avatar and is pretty much set with the future films :lol

Never really saw Taylor as star potential. Had that “cool guy” look but nothing else.

Someone on Twitter said Elisha Cuthbert

Jordana Brewster might be up there

Hillary Duff

Michael C Hall
Shameik Moore
Eva Mendes
Zachary Quinto
Aaron Paul
Katherine Hiegl
Alicia Vikander

Can we add Michael Cera? Wouldn't say he flamed out but i definitely thought he'd have a better career.

I can't really say I thought any of these names would be big or whatever we're saying.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They're all so... niche. They do what they do, and that's the lane that they're good at, but not the entire film industry.

I definitely expected big things from Lohan after Mean Girls. Like said above Emma Stone has had the career I thought possible for Lindsey.
