OFFICIAL Ye fka "kanYe West" x G.O.O.D. Music Thread - ¥$ (AKA YE X TY DOLLA SIGN) - VULTURES 2 (NOW AVAILABLE sorta)

A 9.5??? Usually Pitchfork is pretty legit but a 9.5, c'mon pitchfork, you gave Kendrick 8.5 smh
Umm, they gave Kendrick a 9.5 as well. Accolades well-deserved for both albums, as both pop crazy wheelies on the zeitgeist.

It's abundantly clear that it has become cool - more accurately, 'comfortable', to s--t all over this album. That's fine and everything coming from hip-hop heads raised on Reasonable Doubt being one of the greatest albums of all time. But these critics are looking at Kanye albums as moments in Pop Culture, not just rap culture. And in that light, Kanye albums are monumental, game-changing, highly influential albums for all pop music really.

Poppin wheelies on the zeitgeist.

So it's an automatic 9.5 off the strength of it being Kanye, then?

That's not the kind of review I put much credence in.

It's not that it's the 'cool' or 'comfortable' to **** on this album. It's that this album is garbage. If anything, it's a lot more comfortable to fall in line to the critics giving this album two thumbs up, and scoff at those who don't 'get it.'

It's not pleasing to my ears on any level. The production doesn't grasp me, lyrics are about nothing 80% of the time.

I would get the argument, which sure has come up, that this is different and you can't go into it with preconceived notions if there were some redeeming qualities to the music. None of this is entertaining.

Bound 2 is the only song worth listening to again, and even that isn't that amazing.

But I guess I'm not listening to it as a monumental moment in pop music.

I'm just trying to explain why these 30-something year old highbrow music critics are finding so much to praise in this thing. I labeled this my 2nd favorite Kanye album to LR after about 5-6 listens on Friday after the leak, before anything was said in the media about it.

So many music-related highlights for me. The lyrics to I'm In It, the C-Murder drop, the extended outro to Hold My Liquor, the dancehall -- everything about the production of this album is masterful to me. The first 25 seconds of Black Skinhead might be my favorite 25 seconds of music this year.

I respect everyone's opinions though

Bruh it's 2013. Anything that's different or weird from the norm is automatically great or cool. You didn't know that?

Fair enough. I respect your opinion even though its wrong.

Jk.:lol

Like i said my FB

(off only one listen)Outside of "New slaves" and the little 10 second breakdown by Charlie Wilson on "Bound 2" this Kanye album is ATROCIOUS

givin it another spin tho

:eek at Pitchfork giving it a 9.5/10. I seriously was expecting them to give this album like a 6.8/10.

Don't worry guys, if you hate the album this much, the Needle Drop guy on YouTube will probably give it a 2/10 :lol :{

The best description I heard for this album was

You can have a trash can with trash bags that glow in the dark that still doesn't take away from the fact its garbage

I have never purchased or downloaded a Kanye album, so I feel I'm very neutral on the topic. If I had to pick a side, I'd be on the anti-Ye side of things. So, with that said....

Decided to stream YEEZUS, as I did with WTT. I was ready to give each track a quick 30 second to 1 min of play time then move on to the next song. Well, I ended up listening to the entire album in full, took the headphones off, and looked at my girl like, uh, that **** was pretty good "/ ... She started laughing and called me gay slurs.

Days and several listens later, I could probably only quote 3-4 lines but I still have urges to listen to the album. For me, this album is great because the MUSIC is so great. Unlike the cookie cutter songs of today with addictive beats and catchy ad-libs that totally cover up the rappers lack of skill, this album's beats didn't cover up his lyrics or flow, they were just so good that it left me not caring or simply accepting them for an ARTIST. Kanye doesn't use a bunch of ad-libs or have a voice that just rides on tracks, imo --- what he does so well is choose beats that ride his voice instead. Yeezus was brilliant production wise. I think this one is for fans of music in general, and not necessarily "hip-hop".

And back to my opening statement, I've never been a fan. All the talk in this thread about his career did however make me go back and find streams of all his previous releases and listen to the progression of his sound. Just finished Late Registration and it was a let down from where College Dropout left off. On to Graduation now....

been listening to Yeezus this morning and i haven't liked anything except new slaves.

at  music critics giving this album good scores, USA today gave it a perfect score WTF?

Notice some subtle differences in the iTunes release this morning. Lol I hate this guy man

And just like true Kanye fashion, the US iTunes version is the true final mix and has tweaks over the physical copy/leak. (i.e. beginning of Black Skinhead. Lupe says the first line now, etc)

US iTunes version > physical CD & the rest of the world's iTunes versions.

A little more polished and tweaked overall.

If you say thi sound like 808' or If you say Bound 2 is the only decent song on this the album just wasn't made for you.  Go listen to his old **** if that's all you like.  From someone that is able to grasp musical concepts besides soulful samples and raw hip hop I can appreciate what this album is.  I didn't know anyone listened to Kanye for profound lyrics it's always been his ability to bring everything together sonically.  I feel he does that on this album, and as you start hearing other artist make similar sounding records with electro new wave samples we will know why....
