That review was so overdone lol. But I'm glad that they're giving people incentive to actually look at the album in a different light instead of just condemning it altogether.

Finally heard the album tonight.
I'm not even mad at it. I won't say this is a classic because it isn't. But I also won't say that it's garbage, because IMO it isn't that, either.
Can't remember the names of the tracks that were iffy, but there were about 2 or 3 that I was just kinda like "this dude done lost his damn mind".
But the rest I can dig. It definitely isn't everyday music for me, but I can see myself listening to this more than I did WTT and MBDTF (blasphemy, I know). Both those joints had almost ZERO replay value for my personal tastes (NT blasphemy again, I know).
I think if you go into listening to this without any preconceived notions of what you should/want/need to hear, it may surprise you. At this point, I've given up on the old Kanye coming back. And I really can't stand the dude outside of his musical talent. So I guess I didn't really have any expectations for this joint, other than ghostwritten lyrics and a lot of braggadocio. I got both of those along with some interesting production, so I'll call it a decent album and bootleg-worthy.

his albums are projects. collaboration shouldn't be a reason to dislike something.
I don't really like the lyrics on this album, that's what takes this album a step down for me.

People connect to music differently, My girl is from Israel and grew up loving Dr Dre and Snoop, not knowing a word either of them were saying, but if you drop a Snoop track, shes the first one jamming to it and knows exactly who it is.The lyrics.....

Another example is Chief Keef, his lyrics say nothing to me but his beats KNOCK especially in a car or the club.
Art wasn't meant to be accepted and liked by everyone, its fine to have different likes or taste, people on this thread are taking it too far.

Exactly. New Slaves had me thinking he was gonna have something to say on this album. N ain't rapping about nothing on here. Graduation is A LOT better than this though.

Random but I've been playing 808's all night, and I love this album. Don't eem see where all the hate comes from with this 808's album. Love it. Such a complete album from 1-12. Nice flow, thematic, the writing is cohesive, excellent project. Right after CD and Late Registration for me.
But this yeezus **** man...the fact that pitchfork gave it a 9.5 proves how worthless and irrelevant critics are. That makes absolutely no sense.

Nah, for me replay value is in the general vibe/sound of the music and the flow of the words. The actual message of the lyrics is probably the last thing I check for, unless it's extremely good/badThe lyrics.....

I played the hell out of WTT even though I didn't know/care what they were saying half the time, just because I liked the beats and it had a great vibe for when I was in the gym. This will probably fall under the same category for me.

this is about him and some things he is trying to get off his chest. so maybe he can start to feel a littler better
you can feel it in the music. lots of pain in it.
he is trying to clear the air a bit for himself by expressing is his life musically, therapeutic for him to.
i like the darker direction with the 808 influence with the new wave/punk/synth/electronic influence
kanye is still in a lot of pain, i truly hope he finds some peace and happiness
he was crying out on blood on the leaves (especially in the end there)
i could only imagine the emotion in the studio while that was being recorded..... very heartfelt track.

I'm a HUGE NIN fan, only have 2 songs from Front 242 ( Headhunter & Quite Unusual) so I have no opinion on them. I like Throbbing Gristle tho.

Off topic, but I was just curious if people are familiar with the song "see me now", it was an iTunes bonus track on mbdtf that i didn't learn about until a year after the album dropped. It's mad dope imo, like the perfect mix of the old and new kanye styles. Beyonce kills it too. I know 99.9% of you probably know about it, this is for the small few that don't.

Ye DEFINITELY has struggle bars littered throughout this project. It's painful to hear him spit poor puns, and dull punchlines. It's just embarrassing that he delivers them with so much conviction and confidence. Son said something like "star wars fur, chewbacca".
Was consequence and talib really lacing son up with that much material that he can't even maintain? Verses like Clique let's me know that he still has some gas in the tank.
