Golden State Warriors
Forget about anything that happened on the court. They've got new owners!

It doesn't even matter who the new owners are, just that the reviled Chris Cohan is now the old one. The Warriors' phenomenal history under Cohan includes 15 lottery appearances in 16 seasons and an unrivaled track record of building up and then shredding to pieces any talented young player that came through. The sooner the new guys clean house, the sooner the Warriors can start acting like a real NBA franchise again. Golden State's slavishly loyal fans still pack the arena despite all the losing; one can only imagine the local support if the team started winning consistently.

The new owners (Joe Lacob and Peter Guber) did receive some lovely parting gifts from the Cohan gang. I don't like the David Lee deal, but he'll be a heck of a pick-and-roll partner with Stephen Curry. If the Warriors can find some defensive players to put around those two, especially a tough center, and convince a dumb franchise that Monta Ellis is really good (look at his scoring average!), the rebuilding period may be brief.

I voted for Michelle because she had the breast personality.
Keep Don Nelson? New Golden State Warriors co-owner Joe Lacob's options may be limited
With the Warriors getting a new owner and a new-look team, the question most of the team's fans want answered is what to do with coach Don Nelson. Do the Warriors change coaches now, or allow the NBA's all-time winningest coach finish out the one year left on his contract?

Right now, the odds seem to favor Nelson staying, unless the new ownership chooses the man who sits next to Nelson on the Warriors' bench, assistant coach Keith Smart. New co-owner Joe Lacob, who said he'll be the CEO of the franchise, wouldn't hint which way he's leaning but said he is considering all options.

"I'm going to go in there, I'm going to meet all the people. I'm going to evaluate what I see, then I'm going to make informed decisions," Lacob said.

Making things difficult is the timing. The sale wasn't announced until July 15. By then, all the head coaching vacancies in the league were filled. And now, almost three weeks later, Lacob said he and co-owner Peter Guber are working to solidify the group of minority investors they will bring aboard.

Lacob said he expects the sale to be finalized in late September, which is shortly before training camp starts. The coaching staff usually begins preparing weeks before, so when the ownership change finally is official, the staff already will be ready to go with a system orchestrated by Nelson.

That improves the chances of Nelson finishing out his contract, for which he will be paid $6 million.

Coaching candidates who might be available include those with little or no experience such as Brian Shaw and Mark Jackson, relatively unaccomplished prospects such as Terry Porter and Dwayne Casey, or coaches who would have to be pulled out of retirement such as Jeff Van Gundy and Mike Fratello.

Lacob says he wants a relatively young coach. Finding that person might take some time. Plus, Lacob might prefer first to hire a front office executive to help pick the right coach.

Therefore, Nelson might be the answer for this season. He's under contract, and a few players, who want to remain anonymous, said they preferred Nelson over bringing in a quick-fix coach.

A case could be made that keeping Nelson around is a bad idea. A lame-duck coach is usually undesirable. And last season people were questioning Nelson's passion and interest.

"The real question is when we begin the future," Lacob said, "and whether Nelson is the right guy to have as our coach in the meantime. We will have to make that decision."

According to a couple insiders, one option being kicked around is Smart.

The 45-year-old Smart has been an assistant coach with the Warriors for six seasons, and he once was billed as the heir apparent to Nelson. He would allow the new owners to start the post-Nelson era now instead of later. He knows the current system, which would ease the transition. It would buy the ownership time while finding out if Smart is the right guy.

Smart isn't the biggest name in the mix. But the timing and circumstance might lend to this being the time for him to get the opportunity many think he deserves.

I wouldn't mind Smart coaching this season, but I don't think he would be good for the long term. I just don't see him as a good head coach

I know I was disappointed when Smart was given a chance to coach the team last year. I think when Don Nelson was out with Pneumonia (I think) and Smart still played small ball.

I want to know what it will take to get Jeff Van Gundy out of retirement.

He probably wants a good team that has a chance to win. If I were him I wouldn't coach this team.

Either a) Trading for Chris Quinn, b) Showing we care about defense, or c) Throw $$$$$ his way.

I wouldn't mind Ron Jeremy if somehow Orlando lets him go in the future, either.
Or Spoelstra...

Glad someone noticed that long %@* post I had on it
laugh.gif
. Thought I killed the thread with it.

If we don't have a new coach by the end of August, I think that'll cement Nellie's place as HC for one more year. If the team starts out hot, he stays on. If not, then he will cite health problems and give Smart the reins.

Depends on what you want to do...do you wanna stretch your money out? Have a shot at a fairly easy jackpot? Have a lot of fun? Minimize the house edge to give you a better shot?

No matter your choice, make sure you can do it drunk. The easiest way to make money in Vegas is to keep the liquor coming

Easy jackpot game would be Three Card Poker. Pays 30 to 1 on trips and 40 to 1 on a straight flush. It's a pretty simple game. You initially make two bets, ante and pair plus. For the basic bet, your three cards have to beat the dealer's three cards. You must double your ante bet after receiving your cards to continue the hand. Winning this bet pays 1 to 1 on your ante and continuing bet if the dealer qualifies for the hand (Q high or better). There are also small bonuses for hitting hands on your Ante bet. You also get paid according to how good your hand is on the pair plus bet... 1 to 1 on a pair up to 40 to 1 on a straight flush.

You can easily go on a hot streak in this game where you wont need to hit a big jackpot to be satisfied (betting 5 on each bet and hitting a flush/straight a couple of times will put you up 100-200 quick). For the ante, you basically play anything better than Q72, which is the median hand. This game is all swings, and those swings happen quick.

If you want to have a lot of fun...you're gonna have to learn craps
laugh.gif
By far the funnest game in the casino. I wrote that basic guide in another thread, but if you can hit an open table, the dealers will definitely be glad to help you with that game.

And yeah, I've been to Vegas/Reno a bit too much in the past year and a half since I've turned 21
