Official Umar Johnson Thread

He said he doesn’t promote it but he doesn’t have an issue with them in the black community. He isn’t going to stop what he is doing regarding blackness to accommodate feminism and lgbt because they would never stop to commodate black issues.

speaking for myself, I’m cool and cordial with a couple gay black dudes, I don’t wish them any harm or I have some sympathy for the lager lgbt issue but I won’t put their agenda over ours any day of the week.
Disclaimer: I'm white.

Does the black LGBT community not share the same agenda? First and foremost they're still black at the end of the day and face the same systemic racism, they just have a second agenda alongside it because they also have to deal with the stigma of being gay.
I don't understand the distinction.

the issue I’ve seen with a lot of lgbt black people is that they feel their overall lgbt issues is as big as the overall black agenda.

meaning, they are both equally important in America (and the rest of the world). I have sympathized with lgbt issues because it’s a valid struggle they are having. HOWEVER, it’s NOT on the same level of the black struggle.

You can’t compare systematic oppression of an entire race to their lifestyle. You can always hide being gay, but you can never hide being black.

i dont actually disagree with keeping movements separate. i do however think that if youre pro black i would assume that youd want to make sure the black voices in all spaces are advocated for so that black people dont have to hitch their wagons to white people and hope their needs dont get drowned out. i dont see it as an either or thing. just support black people trying to make spaces better for other black people

Had someone try to tell me that they are the same...like "Hey you're black and I'm gay! You know how it is, right?" "You should march with us!"

I was like - Yeah, you right! I seem to recall stories of gay folks being enslaved / owned by straight folks.

They shut up like Tina when Ike walked in the room.

SMH.

Keep the movements separate.

There is a long history of others riding on our backs while we out there sowing and then leap frogging us when it's time to reap...leaving us with the scraps.

There are racists in the LGBTQ community...just like any other community.
