How do you know 80% of the public is on the 49ers? Do you mean the bets or some ESPN poll? Clarify please.Originally Posted by dland24
For those of you that are into betting, something about this line scares me. The Niners are -3, but what scares me is that this line hasnt moved. 80% of the public is on the Niners, and there has been NO line movement at all. Generally, I take this as "the linesmakers know something."
Scary. I'm nervous.

I mean the bets. What the public bets on (in legal sportsbooks like internet books or in vegas books) is public knowledge. Books dont mind sharing that information with you. Sportsbook.com for instance......if you look at the betting trends on their site, NINETY THREE percent of the bets are coming in on the 49ers. That is a RIDICULOUS number on one side. Typically, this reflects the rest of betters. If you know how line movement works, typically when games are bet on so heavily on one side, the line will move to entice action on the other side.
The fact that 93% of the public (on this site) are on the 49ers, you can logically assume this is what is going on everywhere. Its definitely not 93% everywhere, but overwhelmingly onthe 49ers side. And with such a large percentage of bets on the 49ers, and the line remains the same, is scary....thats all.
As a fan, I obviously feel we should crush the Seahawks. Sometimes lines are really wrong and the public wins. Lets hope this is one of those cases. Cant wait.
