IMO, There's some chess being played between 49ers brass and Jimmy/Don Yee.
On the one hand, we see The Jimmy-Yee Team deciding to handcuff the 49ers by reportedly not notifying them of the labrum surgery thereby eliminating any chance the 49ers receive a solid trade offer because Jimmy wants to either A) fk over the 49ers for replacing him with Lance knowing in his egotistical own mind that HE is the main reason the 49ers franchise got revived and went to 2 NFCC games and 1 SB with him as the starter OR B) he wants the 49ers to keep him cause he doesn't want to go anywhere else and thinks he can beat out Trey for the starting job in 2022 once again. Best believe Jimmy highly prefers to play in SF over any other city.
On the other hand, you have the 49ers desperately wanting to move on from Jimmy, and in light of the above scenario, have no choice but to keep him since they aren't receiving a single legit trade offer for him. Therefore the 49ers are going to keep Jimmy as long as possible while still actively searching for a trade partner.
And if by training camp they still haven't, thry will then cut Jimmy loose and by that time, most NFL teams will have their QB situation settled, leaving Jimmy with little to no option as far as teams worthy enough to play for. After all, Jimmy said he wants to be traded to a playoff caliber team according to reports. So waiting to cut him til Jimmy has very few options left is a good way for the 49ers to stick the
to Jimmy and Yee's attempts to fk over the 49ers with the last minute surgery announcement.
By sending Jimmy to the waiver wire, the 49ers are then able free up the $25MM in space to sign whoever is available at that point and extend who they need to.
Meanwhile Jimmy GQ ends up either starting for a bottom feeder team like Houston or Carolina or ends up being the back up QB to Tom Brady once again LOL.

It’s something that’s likely true but doesn’t mean much.

What a mess.
They got a false since of value when it comes to Jimmy. At this point cutting him, saving the money and signing a few few agents is worth more than Jimmy still being on this team. They already messed this up, they can save face ( a little bit) by cutting him and signing some free agents.

Id still be shocked if he is. I dont care if no one else wants him. Lynch has to be smart enough to know it makes zero sense to have a $27M backup QB on the roster.

The only two things that are possible are a cut or a trade. There is no shot we are going to keep him as a backup or a starter. Dont let Lynch's words fool you. He is just trying to re-establish some value.

I know hindsight is 20-20 but Trey should've been the unquestioned starter going forward after he led the team to a W over Houston.
Not only would Jimmy have avoided the mess with his shoulder, the 49ers would've had a lot more trade value cause the rest of the league would never have had the opportunity to watch Jimmy completely falter in the playoffs.
Had Trey been the QB in the WC and Div Round, we woulda BLOWN OUT the Cowboys and Packers. Guaranteed bro.
Then Trey's rookie mistakes would've been magnified against the powerhouse Rams and we would've likely lost cause our run game and OLine stunk it up in the NFCC.
I knew it all along that continuing to play Jimmy after that TEN game was going to come back to bite us.
That's what we get when we have clueless Jed frk'n York as the owner.
