This administration failed miserably to improve anything on the border and then their solution was to join forces on a bill that undercut their entire party message from 2016-2020. Barely even mention “dreamers” anymore.

I don’t think you need to be a republican to admit adopting the policy republicans advocated for the past decade was a political loser even if it had passed. Most Americans want some actual reform, not just more wall and cops on the border.
Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema are/were DINOs and major hurdles to overcome. Manchin is horrible and Sinema ran as a democrat then declared herself independent after winning the seat because she’s a self serving hack. As far as reform goes, what more do you want? The bill that got voted down wasn’t just increasing border agents (job increase), ICE detention centers were getting an increase in beds, more asylum officer jobs would’ve been created, immigration judges would’ve been added, fentanyl detection technology would’ve been implemented, and sanctions would’ve been placed on foreign nationals involved in drug trafficking.

That’s what republicans were calling for in 2016 and 2020. Democrats ran on major reforms to asylum policy and a path to citizenship for dreamers. They had a record influx of migrants through 2023. By the end of 2022 there were over 200k migrants in NYC alone. The shift to harsher enforcement of laws may tighten things up but the underlying incentives for illegally entering haven’t changed.

Can’t expect an administration to hit all home runs, but adopting the other party’s policy (and failing to achieve that because you lost the house in 22 and they won’t let you ram thru their own bill) is a loser any way you cut it. I don’t blame Harris, but she was used as a prop in a halfhearted diplomatic effort that only flamed the fire for record border crossings and nowhere to house them.

To act like the bill they only got on board with after the house flipped was a win they should have had removes all blame for disastrous policy through the midterms. Sure, it got played against them but you can’t pretend the worst two years in immigration history didn’t happen when they had the votes to improve things and didn’t do a damn thing.

Democrats didn’t get it done when they had control of all 3 branches in 2021. Republicans didn’t get it done when they had control of all 3 branches in 2018. I don’t consider it a failure when the two sides come together to get something drafted and passed. Isn’t that what we want compared to when either side has full control and the other side is pandering to their constituents that the other side is screwing them over?

Meg clapping cheeks and Kamala using old outdated slang. Yeah, both sides.
Is this what one's blackness is dependent on? Old heads are getting lighter as we speak
and nowadays there are a whole lot of folks completely turned off by political news and i can’t blame them.
I can, especially when they call those who keep up with the nation's politics "sheep."

They're the sheep. They want to abdicate their responsibilities as citizens. "Someone has to choose for me, and they better do it right!"

The whole point of keeping up with what's going on in government is to be informed enough to hold your representatives in check. All 200 million American voters can't propose, debate, and vote on every single bill necessary to run this country every single day. No country can do direct democracy anymore.

Even when Obama briefly had a Senate super majority, there was always some nitwit senator who had to have theirs and ruin it for everyone. Joe Lieberman being the main one.

If this persists it will impact the US election. Biden and Kamala have benefitted from the US economy being relatively strong throughout their administration. If the US heads towards a recession and global markets tank, it will hurt Kamala and help Trump.

You're passing off Republicans unwillingness to govern as a Democratic party failure. I find it a bit disingenuous TBH, but it's in line with the unrealistic expectation that Democrats must be super legislators, or they don't deserve to be voted in.

Pretty naive take. You know what changed? Polling of Hispanic constituencies changed to favor harsher restrictions. Can’t we just admit they didn’t do a damn thing at the border for 2+ years while crossings reached record highs? They didn’t pass anything with a super majority because they didn’t want to. Then it looked bad heading into another election. I’m not sure how any democrat feels this administration did anything good on immigration reform or helping young kids stuck here illegally

And that's why I don't bother even engaging in that kinda struggle much anymore. You spend the time to become as informed and aware as possible to just be labeled as something by someone who can't even think outside their feed.
