In another excerpt from Woodward's book, former economic adviser Gary Cohn reportedly said the president has the IQ of an inbred tanning bed.

And in a described meeting with Trump, Cohn was reportedly telling him about the Federal Reserve's likely rate increases during his first term in office. The president reportedly responded that "we should just go borrow a lot of money, hold it and then sell it to make money."
Cohn then had to explain that would only increase the deficit and add to the debt but failed to convince Trump, who then came up with the idea to "Just run the presses—print money."
Cohn once again had to explain why that is bad and how detrimental it would be to rising inflation amongst other major issues with that idea.

Republicans are like "that's ridiculous, Trump would never say anything that stupid!".

Trump goes out and says "we should renegotiate our national debt" on the campaign trail. Then his advisors come out and say he was just joking.

Like #Dembae AOC said, why is the GOP so corny?

It's clear he is thinking......."If I start to distance myself in speeches now, maybe in 2 years I'll keep my job, and if Trump is a complete **** show I can run against him"

Its a treacherous calculus but he isn't the last senator who will do this. In fact, I expect most of the Republicans to position themselves like this is the 2018 Blue Wave happens. They'll still vote exclusively conservative but will want to appear they are moderates by 2020. Collins is doing this now too.

Walter B. Jones the only Republican who seems to have some balls. Father was a Democrat so it's not too crazy.

The rest of them are cowards. They knew for at leas the past year who Trump was and they could have and should have taken action. Instead they are all cowards at best. Nothing they can do now will erase that.

Considering that most posters in this thread were ahead of the curve (we told y'all Trump was stupid), how do you envision the post-Trump era?

How do we restore the relevance of a political discourse based on truth and facts without destroying everything and building from the ground up?
