We got the appointment of special counsel in the Russia investigation

We learned that Trump's team knew Flynn was being investigated when he was hired

And then Fox News confirmed that Comey's memos are real

All of this happened in 1 day

1 week under this regime produces the equivalent of months of news

Technically he could. But he already talked up Rosenstein as being a reliable and great person during the Comey firing that it would be a BAD look if he were to repeat that shtick again.

Official release by the whitehouse said that rosenstein and sessions recommended firing comey. Then, trump said that he personally made the decision himself, and wasn't going to listen to their recommendation. He had already made up his mind before they "recommended" the firing.
