***Official Political Discussion Thread***

is this guy gonna be on TV all day? it's like the wildfire coverage here in SoCal two weeks ago anchors on live at 3 AM. makes sense though, both are disasters.

First of all, I think in all trans discourse, everyone involved/polled should have to reveal how many trans people they have know or have even interacted with. (In the same vein, a journalist’s personal and familial financial situation and ties to foreign governments should just be posted up on the screen when they’re talking. Also, all nepo babies should have to wear a special badge at all times so as to warn the townsfolk of the incoming bad takes).

For most people, they only know about trans people from biased and outright hostile media reporting and commentary. And Democrats have done very little to push back on a years’ long, lavishly funded campaign of hate.

So yeah, no ****, if you don’t play hard, your team gets murdered on the boards. Your strategy seems to be giving up on the concept of rebounding and playing the opponent entirely on their terms. Always trying to be too clever, by half, in every situation, that’s a recipe for losing. Sometimes, you need to roll up your sleeves and contest.

It’s unfortunate that neither US political party will defend trans people but it’s 2025 and lots of politics are happening outside DC. For example, a lot of trans people are getting armed and a few instances of trans people defending themselves against transbashers will change the narrative among normies, median voters. The median voter respects strength above all else.
min would be oblivious to such key information. Notice that the hard nosed Gunda, Kash Patel, is not making such blunders. I don’t know anything about Patel’s background but I know he was not spending his every Friday preparing for a science fair on Saturday, I can tell you all that much.
If you want to roll up your sleeves "contest" go ahead, just go in knowing that you actually have to convince the public.
Shaming, shunning won't work. Pretending the public has just been duped by right wing information won't work either.

you have to take public opinion seriously.

A lot of Democratic losses with young people was them losing so many of the left leaning young people to “strategic” non voting. Others were alienated by the TikTok ban and/or the Stancil-Yglesias approach to the economy in general (you’re NOT struggling to pay rent, see line is going up. At least Bill Clinton was willing to “feel your” pain. Biden 2024 and his media allies were like “what pain? Jack.”

Democrats can get back to winning and winning big with younger voters if they stand with young people and their friends (have a backbone and stand up for marginalized groups) and pair it with economic populism.

(I’m not making any claims about how this would be a magic bullet electorally. But with the under 30’s, and especially the college kids, their potential as the most left wing generation in US history remains and has been demonstrated already.)

Let’s not let this recent moment in the sun for 21 year old marble statue posters, be misread

1. There is no secret pool of left wing people waiting to be tapped. young voters shifted to the right. you can't win the election as the party of college educated white women only.
2. I have no idea what the stancil-yglesias approach to the economy is given those two pundits have totally different views on the economy.

Every month is going to feel like 4 years instead of 4 weeks. They're going to break so much **** that's been running fine for lifetimes. They're going to have regular, normal people wasting so much time just trying to hold things together that we're going to lag in real innovation. They convinced themselves they were losing the country because nonwhite people were getting positions of power and living decent lives, and now they're going to reduce the country to a shell of what we could be.

Will we have a nationwide MLK Jr day at the end of vance's second term? Will unions have any power? Will all power get concentrated in the hands of like 30 companies and we'll have the hellscape dystopia sci fi has been warning us against for years and years?

****

If Democrats cannot create a platform and put forth candidates that can defeat Republicans over the next decade then that's on them. We just need to accept that the Democratic party and their platform just isn't popular and The American public likes what Republicans are offering better. It is sobering thought

shocked but not shocked

I had one government job and never again. It was trash, legit adult daycare.

I’d be searching though right now if I was working for the federal government.

Hr is basically a lawyer for the company. It pays stupid money for bigger construction companies.

Safety is another big one, 150k all day, with benefits and a company truck.

Safety is a dope job tbh

Requiring federal workers to come in everyday it’s funny to hear everybody say I’m quitting. No you’re not. You make $140k as a human resource specialist. That job doesn’t exist in the private sector.

Also need to mention that a lot of these federal workers are working towards a pension. There ain't no way these people are quitting.

If someone is making 140K as a HR specialist in the US Government that probably means they have a ton of qualifications, expertise and experience.

It is probably someone that would get targeted by private firms to be high level managers and directors of their HR departments

Government workers are highly qualified workers that most of the time sacrifice pay for the job security and benefits.

I was considering taking a pay cut to work for the IRS because my job was running me down and the comparative benefits would be better with the government

Take away the benefits, then you cause a brain drain.

The private sector basically gets a 600 billion gift from the government because the IRS is severely understaffed and is losing people needed to do certain audits.

The GOP has no interest in shrinking the size of government functions. They want to weaken departments so they can make the case the function need to be handled by outside contractors that overall will cost taxpayers more.

Furthermore, the lack of growth in public sector jobs for decades has hurt minorities, especially black people, because generally you find less discrimination in public sector hiring than private. Losing well paying government jobs will disproportionately hurt minorities. Another reason it has been popular with the GOP on the local and state level.

If someone cares about working class people and upward mobility, Trump getting hostile with federal workers is something people should care about.
