The last 48 hours on twitter clarified and confirmed a few things
-We are not just in a second guilded age in terms of money but also in terms of culture. The corporate ruling class has decided to just start saying that all workers, even “high skilled” workers deserve a life of endless toil.
For years, decades even, more well off/white members of the working class felt that they were special and sure, poor, non white, younger, rural people, they deserve to live plain and often times painful lives of toil and sacrifice, but I move numbers around a spread sheet, I deserve to be treated like a human being.
Vivek swoops in and confirms what leftists have been trying to tell arrogant white collar workers for years. The fate of “the ‘hood” and “the holler” are coming for that cul du sac. Being good at pivot tables won’t keep you safe forever.
-America has hamstrung itself because we tend to:
1.) see our own job, profession, sector, as the be all end all.
2.) we root for our neighbor’s economic ruin if it can make us slightly more comfortable. That’s a terrible equalibrium for a society and polity to be in.
Healthy competition is one thing but walking around knowing that most the people on a subway car or out on the street would gladly vote to murder you and your entire family for cheaper mayonnaise, is disheartening and it kills societal trust, let alone genuine solidarity.
3.) we equate having a lot of money with universal expertise.
4.) similar to point 2 but culturally and racially. No one is actually against DEI/affirmative action or even pandering identitarian Netflix specials. Just make sure my group gets special treatment, and every other group be damned.
5.) as soon as any group gets even a modicum of power or even security within this system, they become as abusive as cishet, white, men historically are and have been.
-the phrase “socialism or barbarism,” needs tweaking “in the long run, it’ll be socialism for all and barbarism for none or else we’ll have barbarism for all and socialism for none.”
Too many Americans want socialism for themselves and savage barbarism for “outsiders.” It’s unsustainable and destructive.

The first Gilded age there was a populist movements based on people holding venomous snakes as a sign of their righteousness based on Christian tropes of snakes being deceivers. Which is sort of ironic because what is sending us to the second Gilded age are these phones in people’s hands that have lied to them more than any cobra ever could.
MAGA is the most manipulated group in US history. That old LBJ saying about the poorest white man giving everything he has to feel better than the greatest black man has always been true, but social media algorithms weaponized them like never before against their own self interest and now we’re here. With Elon telling them, no, you’re not better than the best minorities, or even average minorities. We actually think you’re dumb….. which is funny, because no one on the right has ever done that before, and their MAGA messiah just agreed with Elon.
I keep mentioning the Aesop fable about the scorpion and the frog and how in no version does the frog rescue the scorpion to put them back on their back. Yet, somehow MAGA has done that and the stinging has only begun. Leopards eat faces, Scorpions stings, Cobras bite…. These things use to be generally known things but algorithms convinced MAGA that deadly creatures can be your friends and leaders. It would almost be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic.

I'm enjoying the MAGA implosion as much as anyone but we also gotta be realistic. The oligarchs and the tech bros already got what they need out of the MAGA and "milk and eggs" crowd. They have the power now and no amount of MAGA turning on them is going to change that. The term useful idiot has never been more apt.
Under normal circumstances, you'd expect them to see they've been played and finally vote in their best interest. But we have years of evidence they won't and the oligarchs and tech bros have ample time to cook up the next culture war or economic nonsense to get their crowd right back in line.
Long story short, enjoy the pain they've brought on themselves but I'd be hesitant about expecting any real change.

Exactly, this is nothing. Most of the **** he’s said/done over the 8+ years we thought we’d never see from potus, so he’s conditioned folks to expect wild stuff. Supreme Court said he has immunity and there’s no worry about re-election. **** could get crazy.

People ain't ever going to change though. Give them somebody to hate and you can rob their pockets blind. Back when we first started hearing about automation, lots of people didn't care because "it'll just be the stupid burger flippers" who suffer. It only became an "issue" and headline news when it looked like automation would eventually replace everyone's job, no matter how realistic that is or isn't.
Sometimes you really want to say F people and be done with it.
