Too many people don't understand how the immigration system, especially the H1-B system, has been exploited by the capital class to create a professional underclass they can use to keep American workers in check.

The metaphorical "legal immigration pipeline" is organized by country, so if you come from a low population country or one whose inhabitants are not interested in moving the US, your path to residency is shorter than someone coming from India/China/Nigeria, where 10s of millions of your people have initiated immigration cases 10-20 years ago. That insane amount of time spent in line allows companies to exploit the hope of residency to underpay H1-B visa holders for what amounts to 1/3 to 1/2 of someone's professional life. The only way to bypass the long wait period is to be a direct relative of an American citizen or win the DV lottery (which is no longer accessible to Chinese and Indian citizens).

Stopping all legal immigration to solve the issue of illegal immigration is like trying to stop the Mississippi.

The solution is to speed up the application adjudication timeline by beefing up USCIS and let the DOJ go after companies that are abusing the system.

Anyway you look at it, the solution to immigration issues goes back to slapping the hands of the executives (Tech, Agriculture) who benefit from the nonsense. But it's hard to do when Citizens United allows them to basically buy the president and legislators.

And Trump has been bought.
