***Official Political Discussion Thread***

Hakeem Jeffries is technically "new leadership", but yeah. Pelosi needs to move on.

Technically, yes.

But it wasn’t in response to a defeat. Overall, Dems basically won 2022.

She stepped down because she was too damn old to stay as speaker but she’s still a major player in the decision making process.

But clearly her belief, that you must be over 70 and/or in Israel’s back pocket to be in leadership, still has a lot of pull at the highest levels of the party.

BTW I’m not looking to trash her whole career. She has done some great work. Her work on the ACA alone saved 10,000s of lives by now. Moreover she back Tim Walz before the donor class castrated him. She’s no Krysten Sinema (how you spell it? Actually don’t care because that vile Judd Aptow style trick will be the most annoying person at her Bali coworking space/meditation retreat this time next year)

But seeing Pelosi but forth this much effort to deny essentially a symbolic victory to both the left and also a politician who has major cross over appeal with his most gettable supporters.

Moreover, AOC could use oversight to both advance her career but also to shake this narrative (largely held by us chronically online degenerates but nevertheless the narrative is out there) that she’s this out of touch college educated (gasp, only billionaire’s kids go to college, after all) elite who is only interested in boutique issues (like having a habitable planet, in 50 years, something that only will affect readers of The New Yorker, after all) and doesn’t care about the little guy.

As the ranking member of oversight, she could really only throw out great sound bites but those would be better and more impactful than whichever 8,000 Irish bog creature that Pelosi is trying to foist on us.

If Democrats win the house in 2026, and she becomes the leader of the committee, she can set the agenda and grill Trump administration corruption as well as employers who are ****** towards hourly employees. And she could also do things, as congress member at large, like put forth bills that create federal regulations to guarantee PTO for workers currently without it.

She could get nominated for President as the people’s champion for President or as a powerful surrogate for someone else.

Pelosi is already helping whoever the 2028 GOP nominee. Again, for a nobody.

Oh and also, she slip and broke her hip yesterday. The universe clearly has endorsed AOC. She already got the Hispanic and progressive caucus. CBC, end this fight and embrace dynamism.

(I did not mean to turn a short reply into a big rant, lol)

It’s ironic because Pelosi became minority leader and later speaker because she replaced the previous minority leader because Democrats had a slight loss to the GOP in the 2002 midterms.

And by extension, they were defeated by George W. Bush, a man Pelosi now considers honorable.

Jump 22 years later and your Party loses to Hitler (who stopped being Hitler the day after the election) and no significant lineup change is needed, apparently.

The story that party loyalists tell us is not adding up. The standards have slipped. We need Gordon Ramsey as the party chair at this point.

Also, the alternative to AOC? Who is he.? Grady Crumbley or something.

I don’t even know what district he represents. He’s got me like…

The guy is 74 years old and fighting cancer. This party is so unserious it isn’t even funny. It’s basically up to the CBC at this point so I fully expect him to get the spot.

From your lips to God’s ears.

I could imagine AOC, despite her current flaws, emerging as the the standard barer of most non whites and for the urban/highly educated people of all races (including most of my DSA knucklehead comrades, at the end of the day, at least)

You said that if someone can unite DSA kids in Brooklyn as well as Black grandmas in the South, there would be a coalition that no longer has to worry about the feelings of upper middle class retirees from Michigan.

May that be the case. (Apologies for any excessive embellishments to your orginal quote)

tbh judging by the way americans reacted to Obamacare.

I think if you snapped a finger and made Canada and America switch healthcare systems, both countries would freak out and demand to go back to their old systems.

Canada is too poor to afford American healthcare.
Americans are too rich and individualistic to deal with the poor wait times and lower doctor pay.

Like I said Trump is going to be pushing Deregulation, Tax cuts for the rich, austerity, and Tariffs for the next few years…. And they will try to hide it by orchestrating a **** show of arresting undocumented people to keep the uninformed public focused on someone else.

While this is going on Pelosi and Schumer will do nothing because they are too focused on keeping the donors happy.

Republicans are corrupt nihilist and Democrats are ineffective because they are politically compromised. Nancy is more focused on AOC and trips for photo shoots than she is on managing the party since for all intent and purposes she is still the person running the show.

AOC wouldn't be an issue if she didn't say things like this:

Which a large swath of the American population agrees with, to the detriment of the real elites (those who spend $50k on plates at fundraising parties).

Some Democrats have bought into the idea that AOC and those like her represent the mirror image of the far-right, and that's a problem because the mainstream Democratic platform is based on ideas championed by the AOC side of the party. Pelosi and her band needs to realize that you can't be believed when you parrot the party line if you also keep the AOCs of the Democratic party away from the spotlight.

What’s the opposite of “iron sharpens iron”?

Righties are learning about cynical applications of idpol whereas lefties are learning how to be awful people online.

Could we have taught each other and fused radical inclusivity with a personal, self improvement ethos? Hell no.

This is America

The median American voter is unfathomably hotel chaired.

And it’s funny because they share memes about how they and their personal cache of small arms would fight and defeat a hypothetical Chinese invasion force.

But anyone familiar with American History knows that the American middle class and petty bourgeoisie are know to bend the knee to a foreign conquering force, as long as they retained access to cheap hamburgers.

Although even I’m surprised that it’d be this guy who captured the presidency.

He couldn’t help it that he was born a tall king with a huge hog.

At the end of the day, he was just a soulful white boy who wanted people to like him 🫣

I don't think laughing about where we are and mocking those who put us in this situation is being awful. Is not like the harder we laugh, the more we will be exempt from the consequences of bringing the billionaire class into government.

It's just the collective realization of the saying "he who laughs last laughs best"

I mean, how can you not laugh at this:

Especially after you spent many years warning about what would come with another Trump term? Farmers, who got hurt by this dude, and who benefit from a terrible immigration system (in the sense that it exploits illegal immigrants), still voted for him.

Citizens in mixed-status households voted for him, despite what he has been saying about immigrants.

White women voted for him, despite having been warned about his lack of respect for them and his willingness to diminish their healthcare agency for political wins.

On consumer prices and inflation, citizens chose to believe the conman and not all the economists because they were primed to distrust experts.

The mockery is part of the punishment. If that makes me evil, shhiiiiiit I'll own it

yah i'm not rolling,
not everything is a proxy fight between the left and the center of the democratic party.

The Dems prioritize seniority when nominating committee chairs Republicans use it to promote rising stars.

There are positives and negatives to this approach Dems tend to have much more effective house legislative strategy.
Republicans can give a bump to rising stars in the party faster.

I get that AOC doesn't want to wait until shes 50 to get the best house assignments.

but I think its wrong to assume this is an ideological thing.

Just to clarify, I meant be awful over on Twitter and elsewhere.

Basically, doing counter misinformation as SOP as well as more macabre and threatening posts.

It will further erode the internet experience but grass roots lefty voters have decided to go “hawk” since it’s clear that grassroots righties definitely have and will continue to go “hawk” when it comes to posting sludge.

It’s become clear that in the fight to win over low info swing voters, we need to flood Twitter and other socials with sludge of our own.

Niketalk will keep looking better in comparison to social over these coming years.

Peep game. If the US gets into this tariff war with China we will become a lot closer to South Korea….. and look who is he proposing be the ambassador to get all that money going to the Trumps…. It’s a joke.

He wants the other daughter to be given Rubio’s seat in the senate for Florida and guess where he’ll probably demand a ton of federal money will be going, Florida.
