That would be met with resistance from trans people. Say you had a conversation with a man or woman and they came out to you as trans. Even if you meant no harm or disrespect, if you responded with “Ok, but you’re biologically man/woman right?” they would very likely be offended.

Got you.

How are we supposed to differentiate then?

In my experience with trans people, how they introduce themselves is obviously what they currently identify as. Trans woman = born male and vice versa.
That question isn't necessarily offensive, it really just depends on the context. Someone could be right at the start of transitioning, kind of unsure of where they're standing, ...
I've asked the question a handful of times where I had no idea I was talking to a trans woman (formerly male) until they eventually said something along the lines of 'wait...you do know I'm trans right?'
It can be a little hard to immediately tell sometimes when you're drunk at a bar or club

This is innocently not knowing where they introduce themselves as trans through asking you if you knew opposed to already being introduced and still asking the question after the fact.

Hence why I said it depends on the context. In the scenario you describe, yeah that would almost certainly be taken as offensive.

Don’t, to differentiate is to filter. To filter is to reject.

Well that's just unrealistic and I think that's where we lose people and open ourselves up to look ridiculous.

We get filtered by a variety of different categories on a daily basis that we can't control age, race to name a few. Both are things we can't control. Full disclaimer I have zero issue with acknowledging anyone's pronouns, preferred names etc. To me that's just a respect thing and it costs you nothing to offer another person respect.

But the idea that an individual who at birth was a male is now EXACTLY the same biologically as a person who was born female defies science. There has to be a way to acknowledge their identity (which we should) while also recognizing the biological differences.

lmao wtf is he talmbout
using that logic they filtered themselves, which in turn means they rejected themselves?!?!?!

Referenced this the other day (a week or two ago) in here but didn't want to derail the thread. I'm wary of all the amateur biologists that will now pop up, but lets see what happens. Check this out. Well worth the time and very entertaining and enlightening. And highly educational.

This guy is a Biologist. He talks about these issues.

Can we stop with always saying that Trump is a “convicted felon,” it clearly didn’t help electorally. But it does affirm the rightwing position that anyone convicted of a felony is a non person. A legal designation that is rarely ever wielded against some like Donald Trump.

the view is such a garbage show. They cry everyday about how awful and bad he is. We all know that, no need to repeat it everyday for the next 4 years. They're probably secretly happy he got elected again because they don't have think of any other discussion topics.

I’m not arguing physical differences, advantages/disadvantages. But if we only accept them when it’s convenient for us and reject them when they’re suddenly inconvenient, we’re not actually accepting, we’re tolerating.

You could say that about so many right or left wing talk shows.

Trump provides tons of easy content to the media.

I absolutely hate it. It was a mostly peaceful 3 1/2 years of Biden in office. 2016-2020 I tried to never watch the news or listen to the radio because it was either people hating on trump or his stupid followers saying he's a victim of a witch hunt.

Exactly. I think some people have a misunderstanding, possibly intentionally, when it comes to sports that they think trans women are somehow doing it to gain an advantage rather than it just being just a small part of their life that they have to deal with.

So if Larry lives life as a man all the time and only wants to suit up as Lucy when it's time to compete, then yeah that's obviously an issue and a point that some brain dead right wingers have tried to make.

But there's a clear issue when people try to say "Yeah we accept you except when we think it's an unfair advantage then we don't." That's not acceptance at all. And if that's your stance, that's fine but don't try to pretend youre something you're not.

I mean to build off this. I went to a prep school and we had dress down day 1x per month where the money went to some charity or cause. All my teachers said that we acted out more during the days we were dressed down than the days we were in our uniforms. Mind you this was an all boys school.

a totally pointless video that has nothing to do with this debate.
the gonadal structure of fruit bats and hyenas have zero to do with whether you segregate male/female sports by sex.

humans are not seahorses, hyenas, fruit bats, dragon flies, all of this is irrelevant.

I’m not arguing physical differences, advantages/disadvantages. But if we only accept them when it’s convenient for us and reject them when they’re suddenly inconvenient, we’re not actually accepting, we’re tolerating.

you would never apply this to any other topic

we segregate in boxing based on weight.
It is not fatphobic to exclude a 300 pound person from the featherweight division.

this fact has literally zero to do with the level of acceptance / toleration of fat people in society.

it literally doesn't matter, even if you are doing it with the best intentions,
its irrelevant to the question of weather you are violating the segregation of a protected catagory.

So by this logic you should be accepted into the special olympics even if you don't fit the criteria for entrance into the special olympics?

again this topic has given people brain worms.
we don't treat any protected category like this.
