***Official Political Discussion Thread***

Democrats and their base need to take a real hard good look at themselves. I am tired of some of ya'lls disillusioned moral and superiority complex. The issue with Democrats this election cycle is where they feign outrage and cherry pick social justice issues while saying they are the moral party, but whose outrage conveniently disappears when real change threatens their status. People saw their masks fall off and the gaslighting, which rubs many the wrong way instead of the devil you see telling it like it is.

Trump appealed to current economic situation and poor/working class people showed up en masse. Ya'll cannot blame anyone, but your Democrats. They had FOUR YEARS.

As awful as Trump is, people seem empowered and emboldened by his leadership. We should sit with that and why people feel they have no agency or economic mobility under Democrats. To me, that is a larger critique of the state and the voting system.

Yeah and I'm done Never Trumpers unless they want to register as a Dem and vote down ballot like one

Maybe it's time to have a conversation with those folks about moving a little left
We NEVER heard anybody in Trumpworld or the GOP even give hypothetical credence to this idea after 2020 (and '12/'08 pre-MAGA), they just doubled and tripled down on appeals to their base instead of moving an inch to the other side and look where that got them :lol

It's only on one side that the conventional wisdom after electoral defeats is always having to bend over backwards to throw away your principles to appeal to the very same folks rejecting your prior appeals and litigate the issues on your adversaries terms.

They already have their own party and doing that comes at the very real cost of your own base. It's not even that complex, it's losing politics plain and simple.

Can't even laugh at this **** anymore. He won. I can't even laugh at him bro. He won twice. Like the air is out of the room. It feels different that 2016. Like, then we were shocked by the stupidity. But now.. I'm not even surprised. I'm drained.

Feels like Aaron Paul. He can't keep getting away with this.

Welp, this sucks.

Surpri

Real quick, I haven't been around because I don't want to. Life been tough for the last 6 months. Dealing with health issues, mom dealing with other health issues, lost a close friend, girlfriend got in a bad crash and been taking care of her, been traveling to Saint Lucia because my grandma is finally starting to slip mentally and I want to spend as much time with her while she remembers me.

I wish I were making all this **** up. All this happened so close together I logged outta NT one day when I was trading in my phone and really never had the time or interest to log back in. I don't really know when or if I will post actively again.

Anyway, regarding the election. It was better I wasn't around because I was sure Trump was gonna win.

Really by no fault of Harris, all things she ran a great campaign.

But like I was a while ago, Trump had a major advantage in that people are really upset about inflation and immigration. But the unfortunate thing is that they don't understand both, and worse don't understand what policies can get the outcomes they desire.

We see this happening all over the work. Where incumbent parties are taking major loses because people are pissed about those two things.

I still found time to do campaign work, and I saw this over and over. People just think Trump has some magic in these areas. Even though when we pulled people, they prefer Harris's policies, and had a more favorable view of her personally.

People are gonna focus on the culture war stuff, there will be a lot of finger pointing but I would suggest people wait until next spring more thorough analysis comes out on who broke where and for what reason. There will be some really nasty reasons too, but hey, a lot of voters are petty and irrational people too.

Anyway, hope everyone and their families and safe and healthy.

Because and America and the world are in serious trouble.

When stuff gets better on my end, I'll be back around.
I understand I might not be the person you expected to reach out, but regardless, I want to take a moment to offer my sincere wishes for your health and strength during this challenging time. Facing personal difficulties is never easy, especially when you're also shouldering the emotional weight of supporting others around you. The burden can feel overwhelming, but please know you're not alone in this. Stay strong, and I truly hope that, in time, things begin to improve and bring some peace to your situation. You deserve moments of relief and positivity, and I hope things will start to turn in your favor soon.

A lot of this energy here:

The meme makes me think about how we see whenever the GOP/MAGA lose elections, they'll blame Dems/any and everybody and their mother BUT their own voter base in the aftermath

When the Dems lose? :lol :{

703 hwy 703 hwy Thinking about your comment from the other day. I'm pretty sure those rich folks that publicly supported Kamala might have turned around and voted for Trump. I mean, who would even know if they did?

Your Matt Yglesias centrism appeals to nobody…it got crushed again. It would have gotten crushed in 2020 if it weren’t for Covid. You push to the left and focus on actual redistributive issues, that’s the only playbook.
what are you are talking about?

Joe Biden moved to the left on literally everything

Anti-war rhetoric lmaoooooo

I remember this tactic back in 2016 too. Trump ran on pitting Hillary Clinton as a warmonger, and many thought U.S. was going to be pushed to go to war against Iran.

Didn't Trump say all these wars would not have happened under him? Going off on how he can tell Putin to stop, and he would?

People also kept seeing how much Democrats were funneling to wars in Ukraine and Gaza, when at home, people just living paycheck to paycheck, and that's ALL Trump needed to make it as another angle to focus on economic/class struggle.

I still don't believe that the elusive 'Never Trumper' voter actually existed in this electorate tbh.

Lot of these conservatives who raised money with the help of dems are going to fall in line in short order watch

Why are we blaming the Latinos though? Like as if Kamala didn't double down on the border.
I'm sorry, I don't get what your trying to say here. I believe that a majority of latinos are for tougher immigration laws. Even those that immigrated themselves, they see it as having done it the "right way"

When you say she doubled down, what are you referring to? The bill that failed earlier this year because the right needed the immigration issue to stay relevant for the election?

sure but like...the right always has a massive megaphone, if it can't survive negative messaging from republicans is the policy really that popular?
I mean the negative messaging on ACA was unpopular and stopped them from repealing. On student loans, Dems ended up looking weak when they ran on it only to dismantled by the hyper partisan SC. It doesn’t change the fact that these things are popular. The right wing megaphone is working when you talk to immigrants about the left being communists like they were trying to flee in their home countries, and obviously resonating with men in a variety of different ways with how society is changing.

Americans don't understand how foreign policy works, which is a shame because it's really all the president is good for.

Trump will go further right on Israel, so good luck with voters on that Iran issue

Gonna be very interesting to see if the resurgent labor movement energy and urgency of the Biden years carries its momentum and continues to grow under Trump 2.0.

Might be one of the few tools working and middle class folks might have to fight for material gains short term now that the electoral avenue will be blocked for the time being...

On a large scale, sustained organized labor movements might be crucial in the long fight against the continued ascendancy of the far right and fascists worldwide.

It always kills me with trump’s stupidity on “the wall” (and now it’s tariffs)

But ain’t no wall was stopping the people who fly into the country legally on whatever visas and just stay, like elon.. and that’s the immigration problem in the US and elsewhere
