Let’s look at another exact recent quote on the same subject…
“The transgender thing is incredible. Think of it. Your kid goes to school and comes home a few days later with an operation. The school decides what’s going to happen with your child,” Trump said in remarks to the conservative group Moms for Liberty.
It’s pretty clear that Trump is claiming far more of an active role on the schools’ part in a student’s decision identify as a particular gender then simply guarding the student’s privacy as reaffirmed (but not established) in the law you cited.
