When I moved to the US and went right into 1st grade, I attest me speaking fluently for my age by the end of the school year more so to all the watching of cartoons and PBS along with playing video games games than school itself. They took me out of ESL classes after half a year while I had classmates that were there in those classes through 8th grade in some cases which I never understood.
Rap and living with American roommates taught me conversational English (the kind that matters ). I had English classes throughout K-12, so reading and writing wasn't an issue when I arrived here.

Immersion is important when learning new languages, and I've observed that the intentional insularity of many immigrant communities slows down their members' ability to become fluent.

💯 my grandfather lived in the US for what 38years before he passed and my stepdad has been here for 32 years and they both barely speak English. They both lived in Polish communities in NYC and mostly only worked with Polish people as well. They always cry that “what do I need to know it for?” Until they had a doctors appointment or got a call or bill and then begged my mom and myself to help them. It was frustrating as **** and still is with my stepdad. It’s just pure laziness that is all.

If I moved to a foreign country I’d just immerse myself in the language to learn it. I saw what it did to me as a child and yes it would take longer as an adult but not all that much longer.

My grandmother used to pretend she couldn’t speak English, but mysteriously knew things that were only spoken about in English in front of her. Tactical “ignorance”

I spent two years living in Asia and I basically learned none of their languages. It’s too easy to stay ignorant if everyone around you enables you by speaking your language.

This administration constantly trying to tell ya'll that the economy is actually doing great & the best in decades isn't offensive to ya'll at this point

I mean if you make over 100k and get yearly raises of 10+% then inflation really hasn’t touched you since your wage gains how outpaced it. Job market is still hot in my industry.

It’s really all perspective. But if you are living pay check to pay check then yea you are getting crushed.

I mean the median income in America is 50- 60K, needless to say A lot of people are struggling & everyone sees it & feels it, and yet somehow they keep doubling down on this economy is great talk. Fascinating to watch, because at this point it's almost mockery

Comments like "they have been assimilated by the machine" are hilarious. They may listen to the lyrics, but they just don't get it.

They must have been listening to the instrumentals all these years.

Same thing with Bruce Springsteen's Born in the U.S.A. and CCR's Fortunate Son

What is frustrating and annoying are some old folks that don't know English and expect you to understand what they are talking about. I mean you are in America and you expect people to speak other than English. Sometimes, I blame the family as well on allowing these old folks who are clueless outside of the house. We don't mean to be rude but it's not nice either for people that refuse to help themselves.

Yea I use to get into debates with my grandfather. My stepdad is like talking to a brick wall when it comes to that. My stepdad when he worked in a firm that was mostly only Americans actually got decent but he was regressed since moving companies.

Worst of all is my mom and stepdad watch Polish tv like 90% of the time. The worst part is they watch long canceled TV shows like the mentalist instead of on American TV. And the worst part about Polish translated TV, it’s one guy who translates every since show and movie. So you hear a guy translating for a woman etc etc. I can’t stand that **** and it just infuriates me.

People struggling doesn't mean that it's not booming. Whether the economy is good or bad, people have always struggled and will continue to struggle.
Inflation has impacted the world and those who were already struggling or close to, are obviously feeling it most.

Yeah they’re all millionaires so obviously they’ll be fine regardless.

If the other side gets their way though poor people will be screwed even more.

You don’t have to like this administration to realize that. America is on fire. Republicans dump gas on it and democrats might slow it down but it’s still gonna burn.

Crazy how the median individual income is still pretty low. Don't see how people are making things work.
