People are still trying to see some master plan in his actions instead of looking at the surface and seeing him for the scumbag he is. Not sure if he ever cared about helping this country or even his constituents, but it’s obvious doesn’t now.

Probably got a dude over there playing rational, talking about **** like affordable healthcare and fair wages that cracks them up.

Two things

1) watching American citizens talk on the "morals" of Russia has been hilarious to watch
2) How is it possible that we always magically come up with billions for other countries & let our own starve consistently

We laugh about Eric Adam's goofiness, but let us also remember he can be a piece of **** too...

The photo shows a Black teenager on a hospital gurney, blood seeping through his gray sweatpants. There are tears on his face, and he is sweating. His arms are handcuffed behind his back, and blue-gloved hands clutch at his sweatshirt.

The widely-printed account of what happened to the young person in the photo, that this teenager who shot a police officer outrageously walked free because of lax bail laws, was a credulous transcription of the NYPD’s version of events, replete with racist tropes. Papers reported that the NYPD responded to an “unruly crowd” where the teen — a “gang member” — repeatedly refused to comply with orders to show his hands, resulting in a “battle” with cops that ended with the teen firing the gun he was holding, shooting an officer and himself. One article coolly described the bullet as merely “passing through” a “gang member” on its way to injuring a police officer.

Mayor Adams wasted no time in calling for the incarceration of his teenage constituent and falsely blaming his release on modest pre-trial reforms. An official statement from Adams wrongly asserted that the teen was “accused of shooting at” an officer and suggested that existing law prevented him from being detained. This inaccurate framing, also advanced by officials like NYPD union head Pat Lynch, was especially resonant — and intentionally so — because two officers and their alleged shooter were in fact killed in an unrelated case that same week.

Then, last week, Judge Naita Semaj determined that NYPD Officer Taulant Gjonbalaj and his colleagues lied in this case, finding the “incredible…self serving” police testimony “had no value.”

“There was absolutely zero reason for any of those officers to approach this individual… He literally does everything you tell your child to do when they’re approached by cops,” said Judge Semaj, noting the teen kept his hands up, recorded, and answered all questions. Video fully discredited the police account.

But the case and fearmongering coverage had already been used to denigrate the young person, undermine any presumption of his innocence, and mislead the public to believing that modest pre-trial reforms in New York were to blame. Adams and other officials, including members of the NYPD, also advanced the case as an argument for the so-called “dangerousness” standard, a nakedly racist proposed addition to a suite of pre-trial detention options for judges that are already used to make the city’s pre-trial jail population 92% non-white. Proof that police lied only underscored the need for the very pre-trial protections they seek to undermine.

The policies preferred by police and officials like Adams would serve to further insulate police from scrutiny. More people incarcerated pre-trial means more people desperate for freedom or the certainty of a reduced sentence, even when they know police are lying. Rollbacks to discovery laws mean less evidence is reviewed while more delays chip away at a person’s resolve and resources to continue fighting. A guilty plea means that exonerating evidence is never uncovered, civil rights abuse claims may be barred, police accounts are never tested, and lies never come to light.
This case is not an aberration. Police lie under oath so often there is a word for it: testilying. Some examples are high profile. The NYPD report about Eric Garner’s killing denied use of force. As in countless other cases, the person who legally filmed the police was arrested. Teenager Peter Colon, shot at point-blank range in the back by NYPD Officer Danny Acosta, was accused of holding a gun to an officer’s head (he didn’t). District attorneys vacated hundreds of convictions in 2021 after longtime NYPD narcotics cop Joseph Franco was caught framing someone on camera. Franco was previously accused of framing his victims, but it was his word against theirs. Facing lengthy sentences, they pled guilty.
I’ve represented young people who were ultimately exonerated in NYPD testilying cases. Several were subjects of false narratives served by police to a willing media, a distressing and damaging experience regardless of case outcomes. Maintaining a not guilty plea, particularly while incarcerated and even more so before reforms took effect, is an exacting path taken at incredible cost to those like Kalief Browder, who died by suicide after three years of suffering on Rikers Island. I’ve also stood beside many New Yorkers who chose to plea rather than roll the dice, abandoning legitimate claims of innocence and constitutional violations in the face of a system designed to presume guilt and believe police.
Lawmakers should reject calls to jail more Black and Brown New Yorkers through regressive policies that serve police unaccountability, not public safety. Gun violence is a serious concern — shared by the same young people who feel so unsafe they arm themselves — but serious concerns demand serious solutions, not the dishonest scapegoating of teens and doubling down on failed responses. All New Yorkers deserve true public safety. Let’s start with the truth.

Damn near another billi added on to fight a European war  , meanwhile these same politicians are gonna turn around & tell us how they don't have the budget to do anything else.

Can't even put into words how much I hate this woman

Like Manchin is an old white guy looking out for his rich white donors. That is one thing. Disgusting, but still I can wrap my head around it.

Sinema shows open contempt to nearly everyone in her party. No just progressives, like she legit hates probably 99% of the party.

I can't wrap my head around it. Like does she really think this self-indulgent buffoonery will be allowed to last?
