Official Pizza Appreciation!

New pizzeria in Jackson Heights, Queens called Elements. I believe the owner of this spot also owns nearby Parva bakery (a Colombian bakery). Decent pizza, a little pricier than normal. Very thin crusts and the Margherita slice is small. But decent overall and the homemade strawberry lemonade hit the spot on a hot/humid day like today.

Looks pretty decent. Have you been to Parva? I'm always down for a good buñuelo.

First time at Angelo’s Pizzeria in Corona, Queens. First and probably last time.

Sicilian was mid. Pepperoni slice was better but not enough to bring me back. Pizzeria was hot, which could mean the AC is down or they’re too cheap to turn the AC on. It was relatively empty in there so giving them the benefit of the doubt, maybe they use the AC strategically. Maybe they turn it up when it starts getting packed (if such a thing happens).

Place has a bit of an old school vibe and you see pictures of the owners over the years hanging on the wall. Although some reviews online stated that these current owners are new. If they are new owners, it’s odd that they would keep the old photos still hanging up (unless they want to falsely claim that the pizzeria is still under previous ownership).

The weird thing about this place is that they have a waitress. She brings you your food and drink, takes your tray, brings you the bill in leather check presenter. I guess they fancy themselves a proper restaurant because they sell pasta but most pizzerias sell pasta. I’ve seen this type of lunacy at Gyro Uno in Astoria. The place is basically a gyro fast food spot with an unnecessary waitress. My issue is that I don’t need that kind of service at a run of the mill pizzeria and I don’t want the pressure of having to tip someone who is unnecessary in this space. I tipped $2. On top of tax, they charge an operating fee. It wasn’t much but I bet it’s related to the waitress.

Pizza’s mid, unnecessary service for a pizzeria. I’m glad I went so that I can check it off of the list and never come back.

Rosa at Bayside Shopping Center Bayside, Queens NY. Plain was great, mushroom was even better & garlic knots also banged. Great experience overall.

Haven’t been to that Shopping Center since Barnes & Noble and FYE were still there. I think I went to Rosa’s once. It was either Rosa’s or maybe there was another pizzeria there. I should go back, check out Rosa’s and I heard Ben’s got the fire pastrami sammich and matzo ball soup.

Sidenote, they filmed scenes at that shopping center for the movie, Before The Devil Knows Your Dead.

Champion Pizza from Ditmars Astoria, Queens NY. OK to good regular but superb truffle mushroom. Creme soda was refreshing as well.

The other one was called Jack's, I think. They closed around the beginning of Covid. Yeah, give them a shot, it's good pizza. You into cookies? If so, they have Chip right there as well. Never heard of the movie but I'll definitely YouTube some scenes and clips. Lovely neighborhood Bayside is.

Pizza hopped today. Newest pizzeria in Queens, NY called Elements in Jackson Heights neighborhood. It's been creating quite the buzz so we tried it out today. The spinach cheese one was so damn good & the Sicilian had great sauce and crunch to it.

From their we went to Andrew Bellucci's in Astoria, Queens. This joint has rivalry with Bellucci which is less than a mile away. Bellucci opened first and the guy from A. Bellucci left for whatever reason and opened his own pizzeria. Solid solid pizza, the Sicilian was trash from here but the Margherita slice was 👌.

From their we went to Bellucci. I got the potato slice which has potato, scallion & caciocavallo. Which is basically a teardrop shaped cheese & delicious. The regular was ok from here & very similar to A. Bellucci's with the char and thincrust but the potato slice was pretty dope. Only the 2nd pizzeria in NYC that I've seen that do a potato slice, Vaccaros is the other one.

What's good with this spot? Have you heard of it? You making the drive?

Sorry for the delay. I never heard of this spot. So I don't want to steer you the wrong way. I always just check Google/Yelp reviews and also the One Bite app as well to give me an idea what others say. 👍

Some 🍕 & 🥟 empanadas today. Went back to Andrew Bellucci's after first trying them out early last month. I had the white, regular & Margherita slices. As expected all of them were delicious.

For the empanadas I had the spinach/cheese, guava/cheese,sweet plantain/cheese, tuna & Elvis(PB&J). Elvis & spinach cheese were my personal favorites.

RIP Andrew Bellucci. The pizza beef between him and Bellucci’s was legendary. At Andrew’s, I recommend the chicken parm sammich. Last time I had it, he was still alive and he made it. I don’t know how good it is now after his passing.

And Elements is fire, I have to go back. Especially for the homemade strawberry lemonade.
