At a minimum to make foobar usable i think you have to

- Install foo_facets.dll because the "album list" component sucks
- Install foo_playcount for playback statistics
- Add keyboard shortcuts to make spacebar play/pause
- ... A million other small things

It's just personal preference, if you want something that'll give you a solid layout right out of the gate, then by all means go with itunes. If you want to completely control all aspects of your media player, foobar will do that for you and more. 
 
you guys need topost how much these cost you cuz I might get a tower built from somebody on ebay (lot of feedback, reputable seller company, etc) and it came out to around 1,200... just the tower.

my build was around 1500

just the tower, no monitor/keyboard/mouse or speakers.

GPU = $479.78
CPU = $214.00
MoBo = $241.44
PSU = $131.69
Fan Controller = $40
Gentle Typhoons = $30
Windows 7 OEM + Corsair H50 = $194.72
4GB ram kit = 130
Tower = 100
1TB HDD = 90ish

so yeah, more like around 1600. which was my original budget.

90% of the parts were stolen

pretty sure that the DDR3 ram will not work if the MoBo will not support it. plus, anything more than 4GB is really unneeded unless you're running VMs

DDR3 memory technology at 1066 MHz while also maintaining
support for DDR2 memory.

Just want to further "futureproof" the PC some more.

So after just a day dealing with SSDs I just have my OS, drivers, and a couple apps like Firefox on there. It's way faster than HDDs
Whenever the prices per gig lower I can see hard drives becoming obsolete.
