Official NT dad thread: can the dads get love

Took my daughter and her friends to a picnic

I'm all over my daughter's instagram...and the nerves; she growing up on me

I will pray for you to have the strength to make it through those times man. I have little nieces that are 13 and 17 and they are all over IG and Snapchat posting stuff like that. It is hard to see them posting pics with boys and and starting to wear lip gloss and makeup (the older one) and talking about boyfriends and stuff and they aren't even my kids. If I ever have a daughter and have to deal with it myself

I have already bought so much stuff. :lol They had a woot off yesterday so I copped the tub pod and a few $1.99 sippycup/bib/pacifier combos (they still have NFL ones on there) and BPA free zippy cup sets, 3 book sets from earlymoments.com (you can get them free, it's your standard free trial cancel before we send your next shipment type deal), the Teach Your Baby language kits from woot.com (English and Spanish), got my girl a pregnancy pillow which she is going to love because she sleeps with 1,000 pillows on the bed trying to get comfortable when I'm not there, they got a free carseat canop deal on carseatcanopy.com just pay the 1499 shipping + get another for $10, and ordered some cloth diaper kits off eBay although I'm still not sure how those work yet. A lot of other things will just have to hold off until I know gender. Also have my nephew's baby due about 2 months before our's so anything that doesn't work for me I can just give to him.

Theyre all the same. You could spend 50 bucks up to litterally several thousand... either way ur kid will outgrow it in 2 years and prefer to walk everywhere in any case. Save ur money i say. The one newborn item worth breaking bread for is a solid crib.

I didnt take any classes what so ever. I did buy things along the way of the pregancy.

I will say I was super over protective. Was on her everyday about taking her vitamins, not taking over the counter meds & the funny part about is she had a son before I met her. Lol

We were blessed with about 3-4 baby showers between work and family, my kid is almost 2 and we've really not had to spend alot of money on clothes. With that said, I would try to start buying wipes, diapers, bath soap things like that. Especially if ppl are going to throw you baby showers. Alot of ppl will end up buying the kid clothes, towels, bibs via that. So keep that in mind. I also took the classes for infants at the hospital and it was basically an overview of the birthing process and cpr for toddlers, the video did it no justice :x. And just be there for her man is all I can say, prepare for crying, mood swings, etc. It gets better but you just have to be ready to deal with it.

I def agree with this. We got a graco system stroller from Target. Spent maybe 250? on it. And we were basically gifted a jogging stroller that he has only been in 3 times lol.

Props to all the #NTDADs :hat

My son turning 9 this month
Any ideas on what I should get him
Like he wants the new 3ds and majoras mask
I'm a buy him that
But also just wanted an idea on what else I should get
Any suggestions 8o

I'll will say this as to preparation, DO NOT buy ahead of time. Buy as you need. You'll want the fancy crib and buy 1000 diapers and clothes, but you'll need none of that, at that amount at least.

Man how much should I expect to spend on diapers though? I was at Sam's the other day just looking and calculating to a per each basis and the cheapest was the bulk off brands and still like 30cents each, like $60 for a 200 pack IIRC. Also how do those reusable, washable, cloth ones with insert work? GF is 8 weeks now, seems to be progressing healthily, first appointment still is over a week away. Stomach is getting bigger but weight has stayed about the same and they got her on prescription prenatals.

Mood swings are something terrible though, until I dicked her down and let her release some of them happy endorphins. That worked magically because she was an ultra ***** prior

Is he into sports? Send him to a good sports summer camp or summer trip somewhere, just the two of you. When I was little my dad starting taking a trip with just the two of us every summer, up until I was a senior in high school. That summer we went to NYC and went from park to park looking at summer basketball, ending up at the Rucker. Lots of great bonding time, good advice, etc. Great times :smokin

I agree with the car seats. Travel systems will be your best bet. You'll have the infant carrier and a stroller. Then once the little one is ready for the convertible, you can find a longer lasting one that they can grow with. We got the Britax travel system. If there are two cars that the baby will travel in, i would recommend getting that extra base for the infant carrier. Makes things so much easier than having to take it out all the time.

For cribs, we ended up with a convertible one that turns into a toddler bed and ultimately to a twin bed. Might be a bit more pricey up front for a nice sturdy ones, but you wont have to worry about it until they outgrow it in their teens, if not longer.

The only classes i benefited from where the "lamaze" class and the infant cpr class. All the other ones i could have done without. The "lamaze" class helped a lot during labor as i was able to support my wife and go through all the exercises to help her with the labor pain. It made it a lot more bearable for her. I would recommend those two at least.

Diapers are gonna be your main cost. If and when you can, buy diapers and wipes in bulk when stores have deals. You can always return boxes and exchange for different sizes when you need. Also, during the baby shower, have everyone bring a box of diapers to enter in a raffle. Give out prizes like gift cards to stores or restaurants or something like that. That way you get a jump start on your collection.

Link has a table that seems pretty accurate to me.

And we thought about the cloth diapers and scrapped it after the first mustard yellow poop. lol And those value pack Pampers brand worked for us, didn't leak, decent value but every kid is different. We bought 2 boxes at a time to prevent late night runs if we got low. Hope this helps.

Agree with all of this.

We got the Graco travel system ( I believe

) and I just got an extra base for my car since I drop him off in the mornings. The car seat snaps into the stroller and the bases, and makes it easier to move around.

We got a convertible crib that turns into a full size bed I believe. My mom and her godparents split that and the dresser for his room for us, so we didn't have to pay

My wife had the raffle at her baby shower and for each pack of pampers you brought, you got a ticket towards winning different prizes. Our little man was born in July and we didn't have to buy our first pack of pampers until January. I was in shock when she told me to grab some diapers while I was out the first time

. Now she actually coupons for those things like that and it really helps. She has bought like 50 packs of wipes (56 or 72 count in each pack) and like 6 of the boxes of diapers, and I don't even think we spent $175 yet. She gets the manufacturer coupons, then pairs it with the store sale & their coupon, and some store double their coupons and some other stuff. All I know is she comes home with plenty of bags and boxes and only spends like $50-60 when she does it.
