Official NT dad thread: can the dads get love

Starting a drive from London ON Canada to Clearwater Florida today with my little guy born Feb. 15th.

We are renting homes in FL for the next three weeks, can't wait. Hopefully he does well, he has done 6 hrs. Drive in the past with a few stops, so hopefully it is smooth sailing.

Anybody travel that far with a baby under 3months?

hell sleep a largeeeee portion of that drive haha youll be fine.  

my daughter flew from BWI to LAX when she was a cpl months older, also drove from Bmore area to Orlando when she was 2. brought an ipad with some movies on it and she was Gucci. always stopped for food at places where we could all get out and stretch, change diapers n what not

young kids are great travelers in general for the most part tbh

I'd say it depends... how much he got, what he wants to buy, how good a kid he is, etc.

Just about $50 bucks so I guess it doesn't matter much

I have an AK-47 between my mattress. Old school way.

However, when my daughter turns 12-13. I'm taking her to a gun range. I want her to be fearless.

I'll def get a few cases and lock boxes for mine I'll give him another another year so and see if he changes

My wife had successful surgery last week for the cervical stitch. We had our first visit with the doc post surgery yesterday and got to see the twins. They are getting big and have nice healthy heart beats and she is all healing on schedule.

Next week is going to be full of anxiety. It will mark the same time period in the pregnancy when we suffered the loss. The halfway mark.

Im trying to come up with something special to do for my wife to take her mind off it. I already talked to the doc and they gave us the green light to come in anytine next week if we just want to see them on an ultrasound. Thats comforting, but aside from that I wanna do something "sweet" lol

Planning on starting my collection, which at this point is for home defense (read: shotgun) and fun (read: everything else) and when me and my wife were talking she wanted to make sure I had a way to lock everything away

have this stack on gun cabinet next to my closet, its pretty tall.

have a 9mm glock and an AR in it so far.

we're big on gun safety in my house, daughter understands if a bad guy ever tries to break in, daddy gets his gun and puts a hollow point right in his chest.

My buddy just celebrated his 10 year anniversary. He took his wife to where they went for their first date. Luckily it was down the street from where they got married so he surprised her with all that. He said she loved it and was on cloud 9. Maybe you can do something similar or where you proposed.

Speaking of celebrating and rewarding, just noticed yesterday after practically half the school year of trying to get our son to behave better at school he's had a perfect month of behavior this month. Like nothing small or anything so I gotta figure out what to get him or do for him. May buy him a bunch of wrestling men and a lil ring and surprise him but idk

Daughter turns 1 on Sunday. absolutely crazy, stressfull, fast, and fun first year

hey so what were some stressful experiences?

The complete inconsistency with a schedule. Working from home, it was stressful not knowing when he was going to wake up from his naps and not knowing when he would wake up during the night or just knowing that he WAS going to wake up, but not knowing how many times or how easy it would be to put him back down.

During the first couple months, we were so sleep deprived and he was screaming his head off in the middle of the night while we were trying to soothe him not knowing what he wanted and we couldn't hear each other from 5 feet away because he was screaming right in my ear. We were so frustrated and exhausted. Really though, the exhaustion is by far the worst part during the 4th trimester period. Yes, they sleep for 16 hours a day but it's only in 2 hour increments so when they go down YOU go down too.

Also my son just turned 10 and he's trying to spend his birthday money and I don't know if we should just let him spend his money as he wants or teach/force him to save a portion. What do you guys usually do?

I'd try to teach him to spend it wisely, but force him to save 10% of whatever he makes to help build the habit. Then let him make some mistakes with the rest and learn that way. Otherwise if you're forcing him it could go the other way where he's being wild just to spite you even though it doesn't hurt you in any way.

I coudnt imagine not seeing my daughter every day.

Wouldn't say scary but it's def a lot of responsibility thatcan get overwhelming if you try to focus on it all at one time but if you take things day by day, moment by moment it just becomes a daily habit and eventually a part of your life

my wife and i took a parenting class. was for about an hour or so for a buncha saturdays. when my son was born, the nurses helped us out. we went home after a few days and as soon as we got inside the apartment i was like oh **** now what it was if i didn't learn a damn thing. we all learn real quick though. don't have a choice.

It's scary in a sense that before you were a dad, the only person you had to worry about keeping alive was yourself. Once you become a dad you have to worry about your child every minute of day.

Worst part was she had only peed at the time so I was changing her and I noticed a lil residue, so I wiped her. Looked away and came back and there was residue again. Happened about 3 times then she shot me. I cleared the path

I work in the county jail system, and this stat is accurate.

At the end of the day, a lot of people should never be parents.
