I'm trying to listen to more shoegaze too. I've really only listened to Asobi Seksu and M83 so far though. I really dig both of them and Iguess I'm going to have to check out this Yo La Tengo everyone's mentioning

^Both of you get Sigur Ros...arguably the best shoegaze out there, they're incredible. M83 isn't bad either. There's some really early Jimmy EatWorld I'd consider shoegaze believe it or not, I'll get you guys the names of some songs later tonight.

They're from El Paso, Texas which is about 45 minutes from where I live, and the members formed The Mars Volta and Sparta after they broke up.

"Pattern against user" is also one of my favorites, but "Arcarsenal" is def my favorite track from that album, that is anincredible way to open a record. what i couldnt believe too was that most of the members were hispanic(cedric, omar, and paul), which was mad dope that fellowhispanics are making this type of music. Sucked that as soon as i started to get in to the band, they were broken up. they made great music.

True, but The Mars Volta and Sparta are both really good bands in themselves. Sparta's "Porcelain" and "Threes" getregular spins from me, and I think TMV's "Amputechture" is an amazing and highly underrated album in respect to their catalog. Everyonealways talks about "De-Loused in the Comatorium" and "Frances the Mute" but "Amputechture" is whereit's at.

Would you really consider Sigur Ros to be shoegaze? That seems off-base.

Listen to Sonic Youth, The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Silversun Pickups, A Place to Bury Strangers... etc., for shoegaze. Some of the ButtholeSurfers stuff too.

And as for progressive metal, Tical covered a lot of the bases (and added some I wouldn't consider metal at all, I guess I'm a stickler for labels),but add Wolves in the Throne Room, Leviathan, Nachtmystium and Agalloch to that list. And Bathory couldn't hurt.

True, I was just thinking more of progressive music in general when I made that list because only a couple of the bands I listed would actually qualify as progmetal.

Coldplay has some new stuff.
They have an EP coming out on the 25th with 6 new songs i think.
They released a Facebook app where you can hear samples of the new stuff.

"Glass of Water" is the sickest by far, it sounds like a Killers song, and Albert Hammond Jr. may have a guest appearance.
"Prospekt's March" is also good.
But "Life in Technicolor II" (w/ Lyrics) is a letdown from what I heard.

I've been listening to MGMT a lot lately. Electric Feel, Time to Pretend, and Kids are all good for starters.

Also Widespread Panic is one of my favorite Jam Bands.

If you are into coldplay, i got another recommendation for you. "Under the iron sea" album by Keane. They are a bit less soft then coldplay. I thinkthe way they use synths is genius, combined with their piano driven song format. I think these guys are dope musicians.

Yeah I've got all 3 Keane albums, they have some really really good songs and some songs I seriously can't bare. Have you checked out theirnewest album Perfect Symmetry? Thanks for the rec either way.

Also, any Elbow fans in here? They're huge in Europe, not so much the US.

Elbow is alright, like you said about Keane, there's some songs I like and some I really can't stand.

Any of you listen to Black Light Burns? It's Wes Borland's new band. I just got the album "Cruel Melody" the other day and I'mliking it a lot so far.

Also, Depswa's album "Two Angels and a Dream" is definitely worth checking out.

I feel like I'm the only one that can't get intoMGMT at all. I can't stand any of their songs. Only song I dig even a little bit is Justice's remix of Electric Feel and even then it's only"okay".

i havent yet, i had only 10 bucks for one album, i had to go with the new bloc party album which really disappointed me. but anyways, theres aband i havent seen mentioned here, pretty sure Tical is probably familiar with them since one of their influences is Tool. Chevelle from illinois, one of myfavorite bands. Great riffs and petes voice is just awesome. lately ive been listening to their "This type of thinking (could do us in)" album, greatalbum front to back, i dont skip one song.
