Official Non-Hip-Hop Thread vol. Change We Can Believe In

I've been getting tired of hip-hop lately, so this post is appreciated.

Anyone have any suggestions for progressive metal? My friend put me on to this band Between The Buried and Me and their CD Colors is ridiculously good. I NEEDMOAR.

The Killers listed a few times on here, for those fans check out Does It Offend You, Yeah? They have some sounds that are very Hot Fuss/80s-esque assynth-rock...

I'll post more later

I loved the Does It Offend You, Yeah? album, I think they just hit the studio again to start recording the 2nd album...

Some music I've been checking out recently:

Bloc Party's new album INTIMACY is amazing. i didn't really like their previous albums too much (although I liked a lot of individual songs) and thisis the first album where I think the majority of the tracks range from solid to exceptional. Definitely check out Ion Square if you haven't.

I've also been checking out Crystal Castles and I find myself pretty split on them... Like, some of their songs I dig like Courtship Dating, Crimewave, andAlice Practice (kinda...

) but they also have some songs that just sound like noise.

Crystal Castles is one of my favorites to see live. Also, don't try to deny it. Alice Practice is crack.

I heard they're amazing live and, from what little I saw on youtube, it seems like they put on a great show

And Alice Practice... yeah the more I play it, the more I like it. I think I approached this group all wrong by looking for some lyrical depth but reallythough, i should just focus on the energy, emotion, and the beat

It might just be the excitement of hearing new material

I just checked out one of their songs, dawn of the dead...not bad...i'll check out more after i get home from class

^So Here We Are, This Modern Love, and On are my favorite Bloc Party songs, hands down top 3. I actually saw them for free last week at the HMV here in Londonand they played a free show and signed autographs...got my Flux 12" signed...looks cool as hell. They're all really nice and down to earth guys, checkthem out if they're within 500 miles of you

Crystal Castles? Man, I liked a few songs on their album but it's just too damn chopped-and-screwed for me. I prefer trance where there's somewhat moreof a song progression and buildup, not that I don't like true pure electro, but CC is work for me. I'll give them another chance though, they have somenice remixes.

heavenlee777: check out Muscles (album is called Guns Babes Lemonade) and also Digitalism, Simian Mobile Disco, and the Ministry of Sound Annual2008...especially the MOS, it's a world-famous club here in London and they release albums with various artists annually...this year's album is the#*%$ !

any Yo La Tengo fans in here? I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your %$@ is such an underrated indie album it's not even funny, check it out ifpossible...everyone.

I just got this last week. Haven't listened to it yet, though. Your favorites?

Edit: I actually got "I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One" instead.. haha

I suggest listening to I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One first.

i couldnt agree with you more! ive been hoping and praying for them to go back to the sound on "silent alarm", that album is one of thegreatest albums i have heard(i consider it a classic), i have never heard nothing like it, the rawness was unbelievable, i had that album spun everyday, andstill sits in my car to be played whenever. when i got "a weekend in the city," i thought they were going to continue the same format but theystarted going electronica(where the downfall begins), i mean the songs werent bad, but i wasnt amazed after listening to it. when i heard paul epworth wasproducing again with them, i was almost sure they were going back to that rawness they had in "silent alarm" but i guess jacknife still had a majorinfluence. "intimacy" sucked to me, to me it feels like confusion in one album. the only song i like is "halo" and "flux". imstill hoping they go back to their original sound because their riffs, kele's voice, and their choruses were pure crack.

anyways, i got one recommendation for everybody here on NT, this album is %!++*!% amazing, i have been listening to this album everday for a month, it haschanged my life. If you love rock then you should check this album out!!! and let me know what you think. i heard there is a song from this album in guitarhero 4, so you might recognize one song. the album is "relationship of command" by At the drive-in. i extremely recommend it!!

I agree, I love "Non-Zero Posibility", "Pattern Against User", "Quarantined", and of course"One Armed Scissor".

They're from El Paso, Texas which is about 45 minutes from where I live, and the members formed The Mars Volta and Sparta after they broke up.

Just listened to Crystal Castles again...good GRIEF did I sleep! Some songs are absolutely bangin, but others I can skip...not too into the 'thrash'essence they put out occasionally.

Yo la Tengo from the album I mentioned: Pass the Hatchet (amazinggggg instrumental!), Beanbag Chair, I Feel Like Going Home (this song is truly underrated,it's the definition of underrated. The piano, vocals, lyrics, everything is incredible...5 stars on my iTunes)

Anyone else have a vinyl collection? And does anyone else rate their songs on iTunes? I just started both...it's a lot of fun...especially listing my songsby rating and hearing every incredible 5-star song I own in a row, I go nuts

man I want a record player so bad. i'm starting to compile a short list of albums i NEED in record form. any recommendations on recordplayers?

^You can get nice, fully operational used ones for cheap...around $80. But then, of course, you need a deck and stereo system and the like. I'm waiting tilI finish my Master's program and have a job to get all that stuff, but I still started my collection recently. Vinyl shopping is almost addictive...andstores that sell vinyl almost always have the best selections of music in town.

NEW KILLERS
"SPACEMAN"
600px-Killers_day_age.jpg

If you want it, go to Google Blog Search and search up "The Killers Spaceman".
Like 3/4's of the link should have a download thing, or you can buy it on iTunes.

It's real good, sounds VERY poppy and sort of sappy.

Dave Matthews Band is my favorite band. Love all of their stuff for jamming out to or chilling to.

Otherwise, I've been listening to John Legend and Raphael Saadiq a lot lately.
