There's a number of music aficionados who have had enough of the typical music discussions, or lack of, in the Music Forum on NT, and this thread isdesigned for those people. Rock (any form), reggae, jazz, classical, you name it...this is the thread to discuss it in. The 'What are you listening to'thread is often plainly filled with bands and songs and not much discussion. This is an attempt for those to make recommendations and discuss what we like anddislike, upcoming albums or classics, even recent concert reviews and pictures/autographs with bands, etc. To start us off, I'll throw out some of myfavorite artists of each genre and everyone throw out some recommendations or discuss what you love and/or are listening to...and don't forget, don'tlet this thread fall subject to what is the current state of the Music Forum. This is change we can believe in...

Radiohead
Miles Davis (most specifically, Birth of the Cool, 'Round About Midnight)
The National (Boxer)
N.E.R.D.
Arcade Fire
Bloc Party (Intimacy recently)
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd (Meddle as my favorite...)
Frank Sinatra
The Strokes (Is This It? might be in my top 5 albums of all time)

Ive been listening to Nirvana's Nevermind again recently. This is actually the first album i ever heard in its entirety. Truly a classic.

I also find myself listening to Davis and Coltrane on long commutes. Its unbelievably relaxing.

Kind of Blue is one of my favorite albums to listen to and just zone out

nice thread. stuff that i've been listening to:
Kings of Convenience
Arctic Monkeys
Of Montreal
The Smiths
Thievery Corporation

I love hip hop, but i have an appreciation for many of the artists you have listed, as well as many others. It's kind of funny to see how all these othergenres have crafted and influenced hip hop as well. Sadly, this post will probably fall and be lost in back pages

Birth of the Cool has to be one of the greatest albums ever made...not justJazz, but music in general.

Ive been listening to Nirvana's Nevermind again recently. This is actually the first album i ever heard in its entirety. Truly a classic.

Cosign. Its a shame that Cobain couldn't live to see what he started. Truly a modern day rock star in every sense. To this day...i think his death wasntsuicide. Thats a talk for another day however.

As far as my contributions

The Beatles
The Doors
Marvin Gaye
Toadies
Grant Green
Sly and the Family Stone
Rage Against the Machine (even though they have hip hop elements in their music)

Some people should really expand their horizons...they'll never know what they find

This is what I've been listening to lately:

Bloc Party - Intimacy
MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
Maceo Parker - Southern Exposure (Jazz)
P.O.D - When Angels And Serpents Dance (One of my favorite albums of '08)
The Beatles - Revolver
OneRepublic - Dreaming Out Loud

I happened to stumble upon this when I was browsing youtube during the weekend. And I thought it was one of the most beautiful and soothing things I have everheard.
I might get a stoneface from peeps who think I'm soft, but just give it a listen and appreciate beautiful music.
Edie Adams (who just passed away in October

... RIP)

I'll add a nice, fairly long list of recommendations in a few . . .

As much as I like the idea, what does this do for us that the stickied rock post does not?

Good post...

I'd like to start of by saying that, as many of you know, my favorite band is Tool. If you enjoy music of any kind I suggest you give them a good listen. "Undertow", "AEnima", "10,000 Days" and specifically "Lateralus" are all flawlessalbums in my opinion.

In relation to Tool, I'd like to mention that "Mer de Noms" by A Perfect Circle is a damn near, if not, perfect album front to back. Definitely worth a listen, and then another listen.

Lately I've been listening to Pink Floyd a lot when I'm in a relaxing (and sexual heheee) mood. It's great stuff. "Animals","Wish You Were Here", and "Obscured By Clouds" are the ones currently getting the most spins.

A new band I recently stumpled upon is Minus the Bear. Their albums have a nice vibe and are really enjoyable. If you're interested check out the songs"White Mystery", "Knights", and "When We Escape", and their album "Planet of Ice"is worth checking out.

Another band that's new to me is Porcupine Tree. They have a progressive feel and are extremely talented musicians. Their album "InAbsentia" has been on heavy rotation.

Since Miles and Coltrane were brought up I'll comment on them. "Kind of Blue" is my all time favorite jazz album because both of themshine so brightly. "Sketches of Spain" and "***#+@% Brew" are also up there for me and I really enjoy the"Coltrane for Lovers" series.

- Tical.

The Beatles. I keep listening to "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" I love that song.
Ever since I saw Alice Coltrane and her children in concert Fall 06 I have been in love with a lot of John Coltrane's work.

I highly doubt that most people will listen to anything that is posted here and mostly will just spew out stuff they think is good and this post will fade intobolivian.

if 1 person can learn from this thread, then it was worth it. You are probably right though.

I've tried to make a couple post like these and they do just fall to the bottom. The only thing that I listen to now (well for a while actually) isSublime, 311, Slightly Stoopid, Dave Matthews, and some OAR. Some Jack Johnson to but not as heavy. And yes I probably do have the musical taste of a beach bumpothead.

I know me too, like if you actually look in to the case like it is very suspicious.
If you guys want just ask me a question, like i have done so much research about this.
But yeah it is sad how he went so fast.
Like the stuff on In Utero and Nevermind were basicalyl the same stuff, since he created roughly 90% of those songs all around the same time.
Like he started making BRAND new stuff before he died, and it would have been phenomenal.
It would have sounded nothing like his last two albums, and it is told that the last stuff he ever made were his best and poppiest.
Truely different.
Check out: "Do Re Mi" and "You Know You're Right"

But yeah right now i have been music depressed, can't find anything good.
I am just waiting for a few albums to leak.
But I am really liking random experimental dance music like MGMT/TV on the Radio/Moby stuff like that.

Feel free to recommend me some music, I am dying right now.
please give me like electronica/experiemntal stuff I have been in that mood lately

Never limit yourself to one sound.

The White Stripes
Weezer
The Strokes

Still one of myfavorite bands.
MGMT
Bloc Party
Rage Against the Machine
The Clash...

Currently are in rotation.

I listen o wide range of music but HIP-HOP is my babys mama.

I think it's a safe bet that I'm the only Black dude in my neighborhood with Yann Tiersen in his ipod. With that being said, "La ValseD'amelie" soothes the savage beast...

You should check out their new songs, "Human" and "Spaceman", they are REALLY good and go back to their Hot Fuss sound.
They also have a new album coming out, which should leak this week
