The real problem is the kids that qualify for the programs/ money don't know or get a chance ...I know in my city guidance counselors suck , n that's if there r any in the school at all ...got told I should only apply to the local hbcu n nothin else  :smh:

Was I alright, yes at the time it was necessary to my degree. Could I have gotten it better if I had an athletic scholarship? I think so. Or if I had parents that could have put me through? Absolutely. There's a spectrum of who's got it best and I know it wasn't me. Are there people who had it worst and either weren't able to attend at all or accumulated more debt, yes there were/ are. But to insinuate what you said initially was just wrong. Books and housing ain't cheap either.

You don't qualify because you parent or parents make a considerable amount of income relative to others. Not because you're a white male.  The majority of those "others" are white too btw.
I've had scholarships blatantly refuse me because I'm not Hispanic though
Literally websites start out with "Are you Hispanic or of Hispanic descent" and if you say no some of them decline you from the start. I'm not complaining, I'll still go to whatever college I want because of my GPA, but it's frustrating.

Logically at this phase of our county's place in the world how can we justify free K-12 but not at least free community college?

And why is it okay for me to pay property taxes to send other people's kid to school when my son will never use that school district and why do I pay the same property tax rate as someone who 6 kids in public school if I only have one?

It might be frustrating individually right now but I'm
willing to bet there's a chance that with experience, later on you will fully understand why there are private scholarships that are exclusively for certain groups.

My point still stands, you're not struggling to pay for college because you're a white male. That's just false.

Never thought about it like that.

Thats kinda socialist when I think about it.

Slightly but there is a greater good that benefits everyone along with a service provided that all can take advantage of

Public schools :pimp:

Yeah but why cant a person who decides to have 6 kids pay slightly higher taxes?

If I send my kids to private school shouldn't I be able to get a tax discount?

When I think about it, its really not fair to the parents who care enough about their child's education that they spend their own hard earned money for a private school to have to pay for other parents kids going to public school.

Its kinda like a form of welfare if you ask me.

It's like the peeps who never use the fire dept or police va those who have utilized many times. Not a pay per service fee. I'm fine with full privatization of anything, I love the market. But I get the greater good of everyone being educated

And paying for private school does not equate to caring for their child's education more. That's as bad as some of the earlier opinions about college

It's not kinda, it is.

Don't get me started on public libraries around here either.
