The Russian owner wouldn't give a +#+@ about the luxury tax either so that shouldn't be even factored in.
Them alone, yes. But you're forgetting they just made a handshake agreement to sign Wallace to a 4 year/$40mil deal.  It'll be pretty hard to get out of it, because Wallace almost definitely would sue for that money.

JJ Can't restructure a contract. No one can. If it was the case Kobe would have been at half his contract by now.

I know that but dude cant possibly believe that hes worth that kinda money and its simply selfish n I expected better of him. He gotta chance of being on a young n up coming team in the east that if they make the right moves, could possibly even contend for a title in a few years and all dude wants to take a large portion of our cap instead of looking at the big picture smh

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a team clear out all that cap space in one shot if Dwight leaves? It just seems like a move that would be full of win to me. You will get rid of expendable players and/or bad contracts in one shot (win) to rent him for a season and create insane buzz with your fans generating ticket sales (win). After the season, you either let him walk, thereby creating some nice cap space (win). Or you do a S&T (win). Or you somehow convince him to stay (win). They can even shop him at the trade deadline if they see it's not really working out.

This has been my thought for quite a while now. Even if Dwight walks, whether your Houston, GS, Nets, etc. You have basically one max deal or a ton of cap room open up. Go after someone else right after he bounces. Or like you said sign and trade.

If your one of those teams willing to rent him, you probably aren't giving up guaranteed stars or have an established team with deep playoff potential anyway. Might as well shake things up. Sounds like a win to me as well.

nobody is going to go sign with houston or golden state if they dont have D12 or anything else on there roster

I have a question. Now I would like to preface my question by saying that I am not incredibly versed on NBA contracts and salary cap and what not.....

But wasnt the main reason for the lockout (simple version) that owners didnt want to keep giving out these huge contracts and wanted protection from doing so? I know the offseason just started, but what has really changed? The contracts (or potential ones) seem to be no better than prelockout.

Anyone care to explain this to me? Thanks in advance.

You're forgetting the Magic would like to attach Hedo Turkoglu, Jason Richardson, etc. with Dwight Howard.
