Clips sign Mullens
Clips sign Mullens
Welp, no LO. This sucksTerms were not disclosed, but league sources said the deal was for two years and is worth $2 million. Mullens will hold a player option for the second year of the deal, the source said. Mullens had a career year for the Charlotte Bobcats last season, starting 41 games and averaging 10.6 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 26.9 minutes per game.
Perhaps more importantly for the Clippers is Mullens' ability to shoot from outside, as he averaged a career-high 31.7 percent from behind the three-point line last season. The seven-footer has played both power forward and center for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Bobcats during his four seasons in the NBA and gives the Clippers a possible stretch four off the bench, which they've been looking for recently.
Mullens, 24, was an early target for Clippers coach Doc Rivers this offseason after Rivers watched Mullens put up 25 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists against his Boston Celtics in February. In that game, Mullens hit 62.5 percent of his shots (10 of 16) and was 80 percent from behind the arc (4 of 5).
