So after having even more things spoiled by my own curiosity, I said screw it and started up the books

I figured if I'm going to know what happens, I might as well experience it from the actual author than from being spoiled. About 250 pages into A Game of Thrones so far and I'm definitely a fan of his writing. Speed reading through some stuff like lengthy descriptions of the landscape or food but it's already been enlightening to see more dialogue and thoughts of characters.

Yeah well the rumors already out. So even if he had them stop now it wouldn't stop the rumors. Besides in the show Tywin doesn't know for sure that it's true but Stannis letting all of Westeros know pretty much permanently stained the relationship until Cersi gives birth to a new husband.

That is why he tries to marry he of to Loras Tyrell so she will be in High Garden (away from Jaime) and she could be having children by Loras, which would end or at least help to reduce the credibility of Stannis' Letters about her and Jaime.

There's nothing from the show that says Varys knows for a fact the rumor is true or not. If he did, that's a major bargaining chip to further his goals. Plus like I said someone like Tywin isn't looking for the truth in that matter. I'd go as far to say that regarding this topic the truth doesn't matter. All that matters is killing the rumor as best as possible. The focus is on the family and their reputation. If he found out Joffrey was really Jaime's son he wouldn't change his game plan.

How could he if he didn't know? Also it's not clear on the show at all whether or not all 3 children are Jamie's. I mean that other son has brown hair just like Robert.
