:lol we got conspiracy theories, and Jorginho comparisons for Rodri, thought I was in a Far Right political Reddit echo chamber for a sec.

Yall don't watch Man City unless they play your club, i get it. It's a controversial win, I get it, but losing common sense to wondering why he won is insane unless you're a casual. It's the post Messi/CR7 era, someone was gonna win but the person who won, wasn't who you wanted.
And that’s the problem. No one watches cuz yall are boring. Same way a cdm winning is boring

I hate it cuz he’s realistically not the best footballer in the world but that’s not what that award is at times. Oh well. We move

The entitled, whiny weirdo behavior is embarrassing/hilarious
It is weird behavior. Only 1 player can win, and when it's not the player I want winning, I keep it moving. Why make up an excuse or justify to others to make yourself feel better about your own opinion. What good does that honestly do? Seen it with Modric, Benz, hell even Jokic and Embiid in the NBA. Sports fans will never be happy unless it's the team or guy they root for winning. I would of been happy if Vini won, he deserved it too but people too stuck in their ways to even congratulate Rodri.

Rodri lit the Etihad on fire, then Istanbul, now social media is on fire :hat :hat :hat

If you think watching City is boring, how do you think I feel watching United play? :lol

Statistically and realistically not the best, but not any less deserving either. It's apples to oranges to compare the stats of a winger with a CDM. I mean Neuer and VVD were runner ups or 3rd, there's really no equivalent way to compare other positions with attackers.

What the Ballon D'or needs to do is give these awards at the end the season or after a major tournament in the summer. They leave a lot of over hang into the new season so a lot of things can be either lost or fresh in the minds of people in Nov/Dec.

We weren’t talking about United though… also we are far more entertaining than city. You don’t know if we are gonna give up 8 goals, a red card, score… everything is in play.

Funny little thought exercise I did early in a groupchat I’m in. What the winners would’ve looked like if Messi or Ronaldo weren’t a thing since they started winning.

Fernando Torres
Xavi
Iniesta
Iniesta
Ribery
Neuer
Neymar
Griezzman
Neymar
Griezzman
Van dijk
Jorginho (lol)
Mane
Haaland
Rodri

Things could’ve been so different for Neymar and Griezzman

It's a French organization. If Mbappe wasn't going to win, they weren't going to let Vini win it before him

Petty politics behind the scenes

First and foremost, I stand with ETH. He did wonders for the PL. United never truly appreciated him.

The way media outlets were reporting it, the Bd’or was Vini’s, hands down. It was a matter of fact. From respected media at that. No one was reporting differently so that’s somewhat interesting. Are we at a point in time where it became so assumed that it turned into concrete? Idk maybe. If Vini had a great tournament with Brazil, would that had made a difference…well the masses didn’t see it that way. Don’t get me wrong, Rodri is a phenomenal player. I see the arguments for and against. The logic that Carvajal should be the winner makes too much sense :lol

Robri winning over Vini is an injustice.

Vini was the best. Carvajal the most decorated. Yet somehow the dude who didn’t make CL TOTS or wasn’t even in the top 8 for EPL POTY won it. And was not even a top 5 player for Spain in the Euros.

Rodri is a generational defensive midfielder, but you’d think he’s no better than Fellaini with the way some of you are describing him to make your point.
This is my only beef with this overblown reaction to this. People acting like Rodri isn’t a genuine generational talent like he don’t belong. The man been the best in his position for years now he’s put up goal and assist numbers last year a lot of 10s would be happy with as a CDM. He has had clutch goal after clutch goal in several big games again something most in his position don’t do he scored the winner of a champions league final and he’s the not just consistently putting in 7/10s he’s consistently putting in 9/10s for club and country if he plays in a match it looks completely different to when he doesn’t.

Yall are making strawman arguments.

Rodri was not even city’s POTS, Foden was. He was not nominated for EPL POTY. Not on CL TOTS.

If you take his 22/23 season and put it against Vini this past year it’s a different story. But his 23/24 season vs Vini’s is a no-brainer. This man was not the best player on any team he played for. Not even among the best in the CL or EPL. Did not stand out for Spain, yet he’s the bdo.

And if you don’t want to go with the best and your criteria is the most decorated that excelled in his position and actually showed up in big matches then Carvajal was the choice. There is literally no criteria to give it to Rodri under.

Modric won the CL, as the second best player on the team and lead Croatia to World Cup final as their best player, Croatia
He literally has such pedestrian counting numbers as an attacking mid. Meanwhile Rodri has better counting stats as a defensive mid.

He was the second best player on that Madrid team is just bias to justify his award cause I could make an argument for a number of other players on that team. He got to the final of the World Cup by getting an easy draw and winning multiple games on lucky PK’s, if those PK’s go another way he’s not even in the B’allon D’or convo.

I would have voted for Vini but the idea that Rodri isn’t an all-time midfielder who has been performing at an amazing level the past two years is stupid. Won the prem, won the Euro’s, and the best player in his position by FAR. Like it’s not really close between him and whoever else you want to put in the top DM positions.

It sucks that it seems like this was done to punish RM (FIFA corruption for you) but Rodri is very deserving and giving it to a DM is fine especially one who is so far ahead of his class as Rodri is.
